YOUR OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for an experienced paralegal to support the Legal Department and the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel in ensuring the organization’s legal compliance as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in all aspects of its operations.
As the Paralegal, you will play an integral role in ensuring the organization continues its operation as an effective advocate to improve the lives of farm animals around the world.

This position reports directly to the Assistant General Counsel.
This is a full-time, remote position. This position requires domestic travel, this is equivalent to approximately 1-2 trips per year. We are only able to consider applicants who reside in the United States and possess United States work authorization.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement and manage a comprehensive contract management system.
- Assist with the intake management of all contracts and conduct correspondence with all stakeholders regarding the status of contract requests.
- Manage busy contract queue and prioritize urgent requests as necessary.
- Conduct initial review of contracts.
- Draft contracts.
- Maintain a library of form documents, contract clauses, templates, and historical documents, and add or revise material as needed.
- Manage contract lifecycles from providing forms through contract execution and maintenance.
- Draft and review policies, and internal and external communications.
- Assist with management of intellectual property issues, including drafting and reviewing licenses, copyright agreements, and trademark licensing and registration.
- Assist in the management of the organization’s insurance portfolio, including preparation of renewals, producing certificates of insurance, and processing insured claims.
- Assist in the management of all state corporate and charitable solicitation registrations, ensuring that filings are timely and up-to-date.
- Provide support to THL’s Open Wing Alliance, including drafting, tracking, and executing grant agreements, and providing support to grantees during the execution process.
- Organize and maintain the department’s electronic files, including completing and processing various corporate legal, contract, and insurance documents.
- Conduct research and write memoranda on various legal issues, as necessary and/or requested.
- Collaborate with and provide support to the Public Policy Director at the direction of the Assistant General Counsel.
- Assist with proactive litigation.
- Proofread and edit various documents, proposals, contracts, and other documents.
- Perform various administrative duties such as document preparation, filing, processing expense reports, setting up meetings, and maintaining a record of legal and policy documents.
- Support innovative programs and new initiatives to advance our mission.
- Other duties as assigned by the General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Minimum three years of legal administrative or paralegal experience with a law firm or in-house counsel department.
- Familiarity with legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
- Experience drafting and reviewing a variety of contracts and performing other transactional work.
- A desire to support The Humane League’s aggressive corporate campaign work.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Careful attention to detail.
- Solid legal research and analysis skills.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities, working both objectively and as part of a team.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, identify issues, and propose solutions objectively.
- Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly growing organization.
Starting salary $52,500 or salary to commensurate with experience.
