Job Summary:
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Editorial Analysis, the Financial Analyst, Editorial Analysis position will be a key member of the Finance team.

In this role, you will be responsible for assisting the Senior Manager, Editorial Analysis, to provide analytical support to the both the Harlequin and HarperCollins Canada editorial teams with the aim of maximizing company profitability. This includes preparing author acquisition P&Ls, the preparation of title/product line profitability reports, preparing regular reporting and handling ad hoc requests.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the preparation of author acquisition P&L’s for both the Harlequin and HarperCollins Canada businesses. Includes assessing assumptions, reviewing sales data, and presenting alternative scenarios. Maintain / update P&L model. (35%)
• Preparation of Harlequin’s title / product profitability reporting to assist both the Trade Publishing and Brand Group businesses. Also includes preparation of title post-mortem reviews for the HarperCollins Canada business. (30%)
• Preparation of numerous standard reports including: Title count report, contracts signed, inventory under contract, weekly/monthly sales reports, advance / acquisition tracking, etc. Also includes quarterly frontlist / backlist reporting. (20%)
• Provide analytical assistance to the Trade Publishing and Brand Group businesses as required. Requests would typically be non-recurring in nature. (15%)

Qualifications:
Specific training or job experience required includes:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Business
• 3-5 years of financial/data analysis experience
• Proven ability to work with large volumes of data from multiple sources
o maintain a high degree of data integrity / accuracy
o discover reasons for trends / issues and provide insightful observation.
• Proven questioning skills and the ability to get into the details, while also seeing and understanding the big picture
• Strong PC skills (MS Office applications, notably advanced Excel). Experience with financial modeling and systems/databases an asset
• Solid communication skills and the ability to build relationships with cross-functional teams in the organization
• Self-motivated and proactive, with respect to both managing work and professional development
o Proven flexibility/adaptability/creativity to work quickly and accurately under the pressure of ambiguous situations, deadlines, changing priorities
o Highly motivated; continually looking for ways to improve processes
o Demonstrated willingness to develop business knowledge and update technical skills to enhance job performance
