At our Mississauga site in Canada, Cummins is developing innovative electrolyzer technologies that can generate hydrogen for various applications with zero emissions – contributing to a safe and healthy environment for future generations.

We have a diverse team of engineers dedicated to the development of existing and future products for customers on a global scale. We are currently looking for a Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join the team and identify suitable solutions for the I&C architecture of our water electrolyzer products.

We have a thrilling new product development pipeline that includes medium and large-scale platforms for both PEM (HyLYZER) and Alkaline (HySTAT) technologies. Expect to be part of a dynamic environment, where you collaborate to develop the next generation of Hydrogen electrolyzers.

Your impact will include;
• Actively participates in new product development and/or customer solutions engineering.
• Design the instrumentation, process control and communication architecture of PEM and alkaline water electrolyzer equipment.
• Partner with the product team to define functional and specific requirements of the instrumentation, process control and communication system of the electrolyzer.
• Selects suitable industrial control equipment (PLCs, I/O islands, power supply, UPS, etc.), process variable measurements (pressure, flow, temperature) and communication equipment suitable to the I&C architecture of the HyLYZER and HySTAT water electrolysers
• Interacts with technology and R&D for the implementation of advanced functionalities, datalogging and diagnostics.
• Elaborates and implement a long-term standardization roadmap for the I&C architecture of our product range
• Performs cost-benefit analysis being able to balance technical and commercial aspects of the product design.
• Interacts with suppliers and OEMs to qualify them as suppliers.
• Develops guidelines for commissioning and service of equipment.
• Contributes to the team development by competence building and coaching of junior I&C engineers.

To be a success in this role you will need;
• Strong technical competency in all areas for instrumentation, control and communication (concept architecture design, selection of components, process buses, control loops, instrumentation safety).
• Expert knowledge of control equipment and communication protocols (PLCs, I/O cards, profibus/profinet, transductors, sensors, modems, etc.)
• Knowledge of functional safety and ATEX is a huge plus!
• Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity and proactiveness.
