Location 

For the duration of 2021, this is currently a remote opportunity with headquarters located on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. The HR Associate will report to the NYC location.

DOROT, was founded in 1976 by Columbia University students seeking to make a difference for older adults in their community. We provide a dynamic partnership of seniors, volunteers and professionals dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults to help them live independently as valued members of the community. Our wide array of programs – conducted onsite, in the home and in the community – are designed to combat loneliness and social isolation. During the pandemic, DOROT’s programs have pivoted to offering services virtually, via Zoom and over the phone.  Compassionate care and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of our programs and staff.

 

DOROT’s client’s range in age from 60 to over 100, vary in physical mobility and economic status, and come from diverse backgrounds. DOROT serves the Jewish and wider community and offers a lifeline of support to older adults in Manhattan and Westchester and beyond.

About the Opportunity 

The Human Resources Associate, provides strategic, analytic, administrative, and operational support to the HR Director and department in all areas of responsibilities of the HR Department. This role would support functions like employee relations and communications, recruitment, orientation, retention and engagement, and administrative support. The Human Resources Associate maintains positive employee relations and responds to employee inquiries related to all aspects of the employee life cycle.  They also lead change by improving processes and procedures and by supporting new policies, procedures and programs.

 

What You’ll Do

The HR Associate is responsible for the following in addition to any other projects as assigned by their manager, the Director of HR

  • Talent Strategy
    • Drives and executes company HR initiatives in partnership with the Director of HR.
    • Participates in departmental and staff meetings and attend other meetings and continuing education seminars.
  • Talent Acquisition 
    • Support all functions of the talent acquisition process, including sourcing and screening candidates, conducting reference checks and managing and conducting new employee orientation programs. 
    • With support from the HR Director, develop and implement strategies for DOROT to use in recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce.
  • Talent Management
    • Coordinate completion of human resources functions, including performance appraisals, workers compensation claims, unemployment claims, FMLA and PFL, timekeeping and maintaining personnel records.
    • Develop a plan for employee training and ongoing professional learning opportunities. 
    • Monitor employee relations concerns and address concerns as appropriate, escalating to the HR Director as needed. 
  • Technology Optimization
    • Develops the ADP Workforce Now HRIS system as an effective resource tool for employees and the HR Department.
  • Records & Data Management 
    • Ensures that all functions relating to employees’ records are processed in a confidential, efficient, accurate and timely manner. 
    • Maintains compliance with state and federal employment laws as well as company policies and procedures. 
    • Track and report on HR metrics including those related to talent acquisition, employee satisfaction, and participation in benefits
    • In partnership with the Director of HR, analyze turnover to identify trends and develop and implement employee retention strategies.
  • Benefit Administration 
    • Responsible for all aspects of benefits and insurance administration.

How You’ll be Measured

Success in one year will include mastering all the tasks involved in management of the employee life cycle and the annual processes such as open enrollment, annual appraisal process, annual training, and ongoing monthly engagement opportunities.

 

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of Human Resources Generalist work and /or support experience in a Human Resources Department supporting 80-100 employees
