Salary Range: $90,575 – $113,220

Essential Functions and Objectives:

Broad responsibility for leading a team of managers to execute against the overall business plan, based on guidance from leadership. Directs, plans and oversees team initiatives, to ensure implementation and administration of programs align with district goals.

Serves as a member of the Student Equity & Opportunity leadership team, supporting the Associate Chief of Student Equity and Opportunity in creating a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and learning. Provides overall vision and direction for all Nursing and Student Health team members in the development of services for all students in Denver Public Schools while aligning activities to district goals and objectives. Acts as a key member of the Student Equity & Opportunity team and will plan, develop and implement quality school health services. Provides program development and management; staff leadership including coaching, training, and development; data management; and supports to ensure that all district students receive state and federal mandated school health services. Oversees support provided by the Central Health Leadership Team of school nurses and student health team members in the areas of health office management, delegation, development of IEPS, 504 Plans, and health plans. Create a team culture that is data-driven, values-based, learning-focused and is results-driven towards positive student outcomes.

Deeply focuses on ensuring alignment to district initiatives by organizing and prioritizing initiatives, formulating a successful agenda, and delivering instructions to managers.

Direct operational units by acting as a business advisor to managers, including: make final decisions, examine and evaluate current process, identify and solve barriers. Develop methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for projects and programs. Ensures budget and schedules meet all business requirements.

Develop policies and programs, authorize and influence implementation of these programs, use innovative concepts, and promote new ideas. Influence projects by participating in initial planning, assigning teams, directing work, evaluating progress, making decisions and advising on issues.

Coordinate and build collaborative relationships with cross functional departments internally and positively represents DPS in the broader community which includes school boards, parents, students, teachers and community members.

Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, Board of Education policies and regulations, maintain and direct activities related to the District’s safety and security efforts.

Coach, direct and set team managers up for success by delegating work, solving complex issues, empowering improvement, and monitoring performance. Hire, train, evaluate, assign and direct work for senior managers within certain departments. 

Oversee multiple cross-functional strategic efforts ensuring alignment with Student Equity & Opportunity and driving toward student growth and achievement and serves on district cross-functional teams.

Provide supervision to direct reports, including effective performance management, ongoing coaching and feedback, and strategic planning guidance and oversight.

Represent the District in legal proceedings related to the provision of Nursing and Student Health Services. Assures compliance with state and federal mandates for health and nursing services.

Establish a clear vision for how health supports are provided to schools and sets clear, measurable, and coherent annual team goals aligned to the vision and the Student Equity & Opportunity strategic plan. 

Encourage and effectively incorporate new ideas and innovative thinking across all aspects of the teams’ school supports.

Effectively design and manage programs and deploy resources based on school needs (including a successful model for deployment of nursing services and other people resources on the team). Provides project management and subject matter expertise to the development of new programs. 

Apply management skills, deep knowledge of culturally relevant behavior practices, and data-driven decision-making to lead the team in achieving results that increase student growth and outcomes.

Ensure decisions promote equity for all students, particularly students of color and students struggling to be successful due to health issues, by having a social justice lens.

Establish and foster successful cross-functional relationships that strengthen the work of the team and schools and promote positive student outcomes.

 

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

 

A minimum of three (3) years in nursing.

A minimum of three (3) years of relevant leadership experience.

RN/ LPN preferred.

National Certified School Nurse (NCSN) , or ability to obtain a license within 1 calendar year of hire  https://www.nbcsn.org/ncsn/eligibility/

Initial Special Services Provider CDE License, or ability to obtain license within 1 calendar year of hire: https://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeprof/checklist-initialspecialserviceprovider

School Nurse experience preferred. 

Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, and state requirements.

Experience in analyzing and implementing data to enhance process and program improvements and to inform strategies.

Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire others.

Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.

Superior leadership, coaching and mentoring skills.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with individuals at all different levels in the organization.   

Self-starter/leader who can anticipate department needs in a proactive (versus, reactive) manner.

Strategic planning and organizational development knowledge and skills.

Ability to develop, plan, and implement short- and long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources.

Ability to motivate and influence others.

Skills and authority to contribute to revision or establishment of policies, methods and procedures that impact the Department of Nursing and Student Health.

Maintaining confidential student and district information. 

Ability to work flexible hours. 

 

Education Requirements:

 

BSN is preferred. 

Master’s Degree in Education, Nursing, Public Health, Leadership, or similar field is preferred.
