DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are looking for a talented Power Electronics Controls Engineer – Technical Advisor to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Corporate Research & Technology Development Group in Columbus, IN / your remote home office.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
• Develop motor controls, including high and low-fidelity simulation models, for various electric machines including permanent magnet (IPM/SPM), synchronous reluctance, and induction machines
• Collaborate with power electronics, electric machines, and software team to develop electric solutions for commercial vehicles. Help develop application-level power electronics firmware and software to validate hardware operation.
• Develop hardware-in-the-loop test benches for power electronics, motors, and controls
• Design and implement control loops for inverters, converters, and electric motor drives
• Integrate, test, and troubleshoot power electronics in electric- and hybrid-electric powertrains
• Use system-level software and tools to optimize power electronics controls for powertrain solutions
• Mentor motor control engineers
• Participate in long-term strategy definition for development of electric powertrains

REQUIRED SKILLS:
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
• Master’s or PhD degree in electrical engineering with specialization in power electronics, electric motors, and their controls, and electric drives systems
• 10+ years of experience in developing power electronics controls for powertrain applications
• Strong knowledge of field oriented space vector controls for PM machines, machine position sensors, PWM strategies for power electronics controls, embedded software principles, fault diagnostics and system
• Strong theoretical knowledge of different control techniques including vector controls, model predictive controls, robust control methods, adaptive control, machine learning and other advanced controls
• Experience with high power inverter and motor-dyno test activities (preparing plans, executing the tests, etc.)
• Strong knowledge of power electronics circuits, systems, and controls.
• Strong understanding of different motor architectures, winding theory, various motor topologies, and their control strategies.
• Solid ability in building and modeling different electric machines and their controls
• Strong analytical skills on solving motor control issues
• Expertise in EMI/EMC mitigation is a plus.
