Position Title: Communications and Story Sharing Fellow
Status: Part-time (20 hours per week) year-long paid fellowship
Reports to: Communications and Compliance Manager, Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri
Location: In Missouri (supervisor working remotely in St. Louis)
Compensation: $15 an hour
POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications and Story Sharing Fellowship is a one-year, part-time position with Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri (PPMO). This position works under the supervision of the Communications and Compliance Manager. Together, the fellow and the manager will work to recruit, cultivate, and support a network of storytelling leaders — advocates who are willing to share their lived experiences related to sexual and reproductive health, rights, and justice. This will involve both working with individual advocates and creating practices and structures to sustain the storytelling work beyond any one individual. Sharing our stories is powerful, and building an engaged, diverse and supported group of storytellers is important to protecting Missourians’ sexual and reproductive rights and access to health care.
From January to May, the fellow will support PPMO’s advocacy efforts in the state capitol. This will include helping to plan and attending at least one advocacy day in Jefferson City.
This position will work 20 hours per week, with some weekends and evenings required. The fellow and the Communications and Compliance Manager will agree on a schedule together. The position will include remote work, as well as in-person meetings and events. The fellow will need to be able to travel to Jefferson City and the administrative offices at 4251 Forest Park Avenue in St. Louis periodically. Travel and in-person activities will depend upon guidance from the Chief Medical Officer at Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri.
We will gladly work with eligible students to arrange school credit. Applicants do not need to be current students.
THE WORK OF PPMO
Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) and Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (PPSLRSWMO) are dedicated providers of high-quality affordable sexual and reproductive health care across Missouri. Each affiliate has its own advocacy and political arm, and together they formed PPMO as a joint project to advance public policy so all Missourians can access high-quality, affordable, and comprehensive sexual and reproductive health care.
PPMO is the leading advocate for Missourians’ sexual and reproductive rights, working relentlessly to block legislation that restricts access to sex education, birth control, and abortion. PPMO maintains a professional lobbying program in Jefferson City; monitors federal, state and local legislation and analyzes its effects on the affiliates and their patients; informs supporters about proposed legislation; facilitates supporters’ contact with their legislators; and recruits, trains and supports volunteers to work in a variety of advocacy roles.
PPMO ensures the affiliates’ advocacy and political arms are able to conduct in-depth grassroots power-building efforts as a unified force in Missouri.
