WHO WE ARE

The Humane League is an international nonprofit ending the abuse of animals raised for food through institutional and individual change. The Humane League fosters a high-energy culture of teamwork and mission-driven problem solving, and we have earned recognition as Top Charity from Animal Charity Evaluators for all of their rating periods. The Humane League seeks a Fellow with a legal background who wants to gain experience in animal law, research, writing, and analysis skills. The Fellow will research the laws in each of the 50 states and at the federal level and provide a comprehensive overview and analysis of those laws.

This is a short term, remote opportunity, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States and must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment-based visa status.

  • Gain a clear understanding of the legal landscape for farm animals in the United States.
  • Gain experience working with an in house legal department.
  • Fellows will be compensated with a $4,500 stipend with successful completion of project benchmarks and engagement in training.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research existing and proposed state and federal laws that pertain to farm animals.
  • Analyze existing and proposed state and federal laws that pertain to farm animals.
  • Prepare written memos or other documents that provide an overview and analysis of existing and proposed laws.

QUALIFICATIONS

Strong applicants will demonstrate:

  • Law student or recent law graduate
  • Legal research and writing skills
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong capacity to take initiative, work independently, and follow through to execute on project ideas
  • Willingness to take direction and embrace a collaborative spirit
  • You must be available for the entirety of the Fellowship term: August 31 to December 18, 2020.
  • Must be 18 years of age or over, have a high school diploma, GED, or college diploma.
