CHELCO is accepting applications for an Engineering Representative to work primarily out of DeFuniak Springs but may be required to work at any CHELCO location as the cooperative may need.
About Us
CHELCO is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative employing more than 150 people and serving more than 56,000 accounts in Walton, Okaloosa, Holmes, and Santa Rosa counties in the panhandle of Florida to include ownership, operation and maintenance of the electrical distribution and transmission systems on Eglin AFB.
Basic Job Details
In this position, the Engineering Representative designs high-quality, well-integrated, reliable overhead and underground distribution power lines while striving to achieve member/customer satisfaction. Duties include, but aren’t limited to:
- drawing staking sheets,
- on-site staking,
- using the National Electrical Safety Code, and
- determining transformer and conductor size for services.
- Providing information about line extension policies to customers, contractors, developers and other internal departments.
Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent and at least seven years of related experience; or completed CHELCO’s Apprentice Engineering Program and all three levels of staking school. Or completed a CHELCO approved Engineering Training Program and equivalent staking training.
The ideal candidate should have knowledge of RUS Uniform System of Accounts, RUS specifications, NESC, NEC, OSHA, and local, state and federal codes. Effective working knowledge of a utility system and service area. Effective working knowledge of utility construction standards, rates and service rules and regulations. Knowledge of the following is also required:
- Design — knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, or models.
- Engineering and technology — knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production.
- Computers — knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.
- English language —Ability to converse with internal and/or external customers in English.
- Clerical — knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
