Salary Range: $59,355 – $71,923
Essential Functions and Objectives:
Administers and manages activities within a specific area of a responsibility. Serves as the subject matter expert and applies gained knowledge to execute, maintain and improve systems, programs, or processes.
Performs advanced level accounting functions specific to the District’s financial operations. Performs budget to actual analysis on various projects within the District, maintains an understanding of governmental accounting principles, performs analysis and regular account reconciliations, and ensures accurate recording of transactions. Handles transactions pertaining to day-to-day activities for the District. Participates in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) CAFR and/or Single Audit.
– Provides various support and conducts activities related to logistics, reporting, training, communications, and processes. Participates in the planning and implementation of new initiatives.
– Assesses and troubleshoots escalated problems and applies expert understanding to resolve complex challenges of stakeholders; focuses on root cause identification in order to achieve systemic and sustainable improvement. Approves and documents exceptions for compliance record keeping and reporting.
– Ensures appropriate key stakeholder involvement in planning, goal-setting, and implementation to achieve buy-in of work products. Ensures purposeful, positive and professional interactions and relationships with all stakeholders; enables consistent application of work products across the district.
– Identifies opportunities for improvement, prioritizes, and recommends solutions to management. Implements approved enhancements to ensure consistency across the district. identifies opportunities to reduce costs; analyzes available data, trends, and feedback, and ensures compliance with expectations for optimal operation and goal achievement.
– Collaborates with teams across the District to ensure accurate financial reporting.
– Monitors that new account structures are set up in the District’s Financial ERP system to ensure proper financial transparency with District reporting.
– Establishes and maintains procedures for accounting for assigned funds and projects.
– Researches and documents recommendations on governmental accounting standards, new pronouncements and proposed accounting treatments, with an emphasis on Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and generally accepted accounting principles.
– Participates in the preparation of the Data Pipeline submission to the State of Colorado Department of Education (CDE).
– Participates in the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report and Single Audit for the District, including preparation and review of prepared by client (PBC) items and footnote disclosures.
– Reviews analytics for District Funds, including analysis on balance sheet and income statement period to date and year to date.
– Handles matters related to human resources and finance that are confidential in nature and used in negotiations with internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to, legal liabilities, private contracts, and financial and strategic District bargaining information.
Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
– Five (5) or more years of relevant field experience in a governmental accounting setting (school district accounting) preferred.
– Two (2) or more years of experience in Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) and/or Single Audit.
– Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or CPA Candidate, preferred.
– Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
– Excellent organizational, time management, and analytic skills with strong attention to detail.
– Ability to communicate diplomatically and persuasively with effective verbal, written, and presentation skills.
– Outstanding facilitation and communication skills, including ability to inspire and motivate others.
– Ability to perform as an effective leader and team player, recognizing and resolving conflicts or potentially controversial situations through diplomacy.
– Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and fast-paced environment.
– Ability to multi-task and juggle management of several high-priority projects in parallel.
– Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, including the ability to lead a high-performing team.
– Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, as well as Google Suite.
Education Requirements:
– Bachelor’s Degree in accounting is required.
