Job Title: Accounting Manager

Reports to: CFO

Organizational Description:

Strathmore is a nonprofit multi-disciplinary arts center and presenting organization based one-half mile outside the Capital Beltway in North Bethesda, Maryland. Best known for performances and events at the 1,976-seat Music Center at Strathmore, the organization has been presenting accessible, affordable visual and performing arts in the smaller historic Mansion at Strathmore and all over its 16-acre site since 1981. Strathmore operates the facilities on its campus in partnership with Montgomery County, MD government, which owns the buildings and property. Additionally, AMP by Strathmore, located at Pike and Rose, is a live music venue that operates throughout the year. Strathmore is a welcoming and creative place, where every member of our community can gather and experience the arts from every angle.  Currently, Strathmore is only offering limited virtual performances and remains closed, in accordance with the Governor Hogan’s Executive Order, for the time being.

Position Summary Statement:

The Accounting Manager is critical to both the functionality and success of the finance team. This person also serves as the primary point of contact for the Organization for all finance related matters. While working closely with the CFO, this person will be primarily responsible for managing general accounting and financial processes at Strathmore Hall Foundation, Inc. Primary responsibilities will include general bookkeeping, maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledgers; along with day to day tasks not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions. This role also comes with an opportunity for ownership and growth within the role as well as an opportunity for process improvements to be researched and implemented based on needs assessments. The CFO is looking for a team member that will work hard to get the job done.

Accountant Job Duties:

  • General
    • Preparing daily and monthly journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and managing the monthly close process with the support of the CFO.
    • Performing monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
    • Performing monthly revenue reconciliations for earned and contributed revenue.
    • Meeting various processing and reporting deadlines.
    • Managing the annual audit, include responding to information requests, preparing schedules and reviewing financial statements
    • Preparing 1099 Income Tax forms.
    • Ensuring compliance with GAAP.
    • Overseeing record and storage of documents (both paper and electronic).
    • Assisting the CFO with special projects as needed.
  • Accounts Payable
    • Coding expenses to accounts and project cost centers by analyzing invoice and communicating with staff; recording entries into the Financial Edge accounting system timely and accurately
    • Scheduling and preparing payments on a weekly basis.
    • Responsible for entering in check payments into Intellix banking system.
    • Distribution and mailing of checks or processing of EFT payments.
    • Responsible for vendor maintenance by monitoring discount opportunities; verifying federal ID numbers; resolving payment discrepancies and documentation; insuring credit is received for outstanding memos; and issuing stop-payments.
    • Processing expense reports and employee credit card accounts.
      • Reconciling of credit card between accounting system and statement on a monthly basis
    • Verifying vendor accounts by reconciling monthly statements and related transactions.
  • Accounts Receivable
    • Posting customer payments by recording cash and checks into accounting system on a weekly basis.
    • Reconciliation of receivables between accounting system and donor database on a monthly basis.
    • Verifying validity of account discrepancies by obtaining and investigating information from sales/agreements, and customers.
  • Payroll
    • Preparing Front of House and Union payroll spreadsheets and import into Paychex software.
    • Reviewing of time and attendance entries for payroll and follow up of missing time entries
    • Assisting with preparation of benefit workbooks.

Qualifications:

  • 2-year or 4-year certification or accreditation required
  • At least 3 years of experience in non-profit accounting
  • Working knowledge of GAAP
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Reliable and hands on with acute attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize work based on deadlines
  • Can identify and troubleshoot variances or incorrect balances
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Desire to grow, learn, and contribute to a team
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Experience with Financial Edge a plus.
  • Additional hours outside of a normal 40 hours workweek will be required during certain periods of the year.

This is a full-time time, exempt, salaried position. Salary is commensurate with experience. Competitive benefits package.
