Our current product lines include The Root of it All® topicals and tinctures, Mistifi® Vape pens, and Tough Mama® infused pre-rolls and vape carts. We are starting a Type 11 distribution operation to maximize utilization of our large warehouse space and optimize our supply chain.

Position Description
The Extraction and Refinement Manager oversees the daily operation and maintenance for a non-volatile supercritical CO2 cannabis extraction system from the receipt of cannabis material through post-processing of extracted material. This position is responsible for training extraction and refinement technicians, analyzing data, reporting on lab metrics, refining and advancing current systems, maintaining stock of consumables, and having a firm understanding of equipment and processes.
Key duties and responsibilities
• Meet Extraction Department operational KPI’s o Operate extraction system within approved operating parameters to create extract within quality specifications
o Perform daily operational/safety checks within the extraction and post-processing room
o Perform preventative maintenance on extraction and post-processing equipment
o Schedule and facilitate maintenance on extraction and post-processing equipment
o Accurately complete production records in line with state and local regulations
o Establish a schedule to meet production and sales needs
o Manage extraction department resources, delegate tasks and/or cover tasks as needed to ensure schedule adherence
o Perform inventory management and arrange orders for consumables/parts related to extraction and post-processing
o Adherence to Quality Management Systems and processes
o Performs METRC and ERP transactions
o Participate in the raw material sourcing process, in collaboration with technical and procurement team
• Implement a continuous improvement program o Create change management process to implement improvements to the extraction program
o Analyze data and create reports to demonstrate efficiency, throughput, growth, and process improvements
o Make recommendations to management team on continuous improvement initiatives, including upgrades, capital expenditure (CAPEX) and resourcing needs.
o Collaborate with Reliability Manager to install, commission, and operate new equipment, upgrades.
o Design and assist in research projects for innovation, new products and process improvements
o Create, review, and revise controlled documents
• Demonstrate Leadership o Promote a safe, consumer focused, and collaborative working culture.
o Hire, train and mentor extraction technicians and post-processing lab technicians.
o Show ownership for the extraction department, and lead by example.
o Inspire positive morale among extraction and post-processing technicians, as well as any other employee of M Plant that you work in close proximity to.
o Meet regularly with direct reports, perform reviews, and set goals.
o Stay informed on current industry and regulatory practices and advancements.
o Communicate effectively, cross-functionally between multiple locations, time zones, and departments.
o Perform any other job duties as needed including but not limited to production, inventory maintenance, internal audits, product development, and general cleaning.
o Set realistic goals and expectations for your department and team.
Requirements
• Must be 21 years of age or older
• A minimum of 4 years experience working in botanical or cannabis extraction, with a focus in CO2 and solventless extraction, and proficiency in post-processing.
• A minimum of 4 years experience working with hazardous chemicals such as ethanol
• 2 years of experience in management, strong proven leadership skills
• Strong understanding of Good Laboratory Practices
• Proficient in MS Office suite including Excel and PowerPoint
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to operate a pallet jack, forklift, and other like logistics equipment
• Ability to read and write with excellent proficiency in English
• Ability to perform basic math such as addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication
• Ability to meet consistent attendance
Preferred Requirements
• METRC experience
• R&D experience
• Science or engineering degree
• 30- hour general industry OSHA certified
• First Aid, CPR/AED certified
• DOT Hazmat employee and uniform waste manifest certified
• Sensory/organoleptic experience
• Strong working knowledge of BCC and CDPH regulations
• Bilingual in Spanish and English
• Passion for cannabis
• Interested in sustainable business practices
Work Environment
This position works primarily in administrative, extraction, and refinement areas. The climate is controlled in the core facility and office. Temperature in the extraction lab can reach up to 90°F and employees must wear long pants and smocks while in the room. Temperature is semi-controlled in the indoor warehouse and may fluctuate with the seasons. The noise level fluctuates based off equipment being used and tasks being conducted. Personal protective equipment such as steel toe shoes, hard hats, ear protection, nitrile gloves, heat resistant gloves, cut resistant gloves, and safety glasses are required for many duties. This position will also work in close proximity to peers in an open office setting in an assigned cubical. There are cameras throughout the facility for security purposes.
Physical Demands
This employee is frequently required to walk/stand greater than 50% of the time, or as often as necessary in carrying out job duties. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus with the ability to see objects in presence of bright lighting (ex: computer screen.) Speech and hearing abilities are frequently required to interact with management, coworkers, temporary staffing, suppliers, and transporters. The employee will be required to do repetitive tasks such as applying caps, labels, packing materials, and typing. This position requires lifting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching above shoulder height approximately 25% of the time. Must be able to frequently lift and carry >25 pounds.
