Full-Time VP, Engineering

OneValley – Posted by OneValley San Mateo, California, United States

Job Description

OneValley is seeking an experienced VP of Engineering to manage our diverse, fast growing, engineering team. The OneValley VP of Engineering is responsible for developing a compelling and strategic technical vision and shaping how engineering will contribute to the achievement of OneValley’s vision and goals. You know what it means to be a driver at a startup in the middle of hyper growth and take a deeply values-based approach to your work. You’re technical, and highly capable at assessing the time it will take to deliver features or products, and delivering quality releases on that schedule. But you achieve true professional bliss through building a strong engineering culture, attracting and developing top talent, and overseeing the overall health of a mission driven team. This is a huge opportunity for a hyper-motivated person to join our journey early in an influential role, and make a lasting impact as we scale.

This position will start ASAP and will work in person at our Innovation Center in San Mateo.

At OneValley, we are committed to fighting systemic inequality through democratizing and decentralizing access to resources and support networks so that together we build an innovation community with diversity, love, and action at its core. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We welcome and encourage all applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement the strategic direction of OneValley’s engineering and development initiatives, working closely with Product and the larger management team
  • Develop and promote processes which ensure timely and economical delivery of high quality products and features that will delight our customers.
  • Establish, communicate, and implement engineering and development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
  • Establish necessary headcount/skills/structure to achieve current and future goals, and recruit and retain top talent
  • Steer the 8+ person engineering team through management and coaching.
  • Ensure everyone on the team has the resources and opportunities to learn and grow — formal/informal training, mentorship, stretch goals, attendance at conferences
  • Develop the staffing logic and execute it, factoring in engineering preferences and professional development
  • Regularly evaluate team structure to ensure the organization can move quickly
  • Devise methods to measure output and effectiveness week over week and present findings and bottlenecks
  • Inspire and motivate the team to strive for excellence
  • Fill in the blanks and verify that the Engineering team has the right tools, technology, and processes to build quality, scalable and reliable systems
  • Codify and disseminate best practices (i.e. testing, code reviews, pair programming)

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required

  • 10+ years of experience building and managing Engineering teams from 5 to 50+
  • Strong organizational management skills.
  • You excel at analyzing deep technical problems and coaching teams to the best solutions
  • You have exceptional communication skills with extensive experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders
  • You have a bias towards action and experimentation
  • You are self-driven and tireless in the pursuit of high-quality results
  • Ability to communicate plans, challenges, and updates to other functional heads
  • Strong technical foundations in front end and back end technologies.
  • Previous working experience in software design and developing customer-orientated SaaS platforms.
  • Experienced with product management
  • Strong customer relationship skills and experience hosting technical demos, integrations and supporting a business development team
  • Experience handling compliance

Preferred

  • Experience in managing a hybrid local and remote team, including offshore team members
  • Familiarity with Atlassian products (Jira, Confluence, Crowd) and the AWS Console.
  • Eagerness to understand challenges facing other departments or the company at large and able to provide input, advice and/or possible solutions
  • You have experience with all phases of technical recruiting – evangelism, sourcing, interviewing and closing
  • You are knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management.
