Full-Time Program Associate, Listening Post Collective

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The Listening Post Collective (LPC) is looking for a thoughtful, creative, self-motivated person who is passionate about civic engagement and journalism to join our team. LPC partners with people and organizations across the United States to develop local news and information solutions that help communities thrive and we are working toward a future where civic power is strengthened by equitable civic media.

You will help us manage our LPC partnership portfolio and support our partners and programs across the country. Depending on the day, that could involve working with a bilingual community radio station on sustainability issues, crafting narratives about our field work for social media or our newsletter, writing funding proposals for important work, connecting with and learning from our organizational partners in more than 100 countries, even site visits to new potential projects. As part of this job, you will learn the ins and outs of supporting local community journalism organizations, from the start-up to scale-up phase.

The Listening Post Collective is part of Internews, a women-led international non-profit organization.

 

LOGISTICS

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Internews’ headquarters and global offices are closed or partially remote. Internews staff are currently working remotely until at least 1 July 2021. Until further notice, this position will also function remotely. Ultimately, this position will be based Washington, D.C. in the United States of America, though ongoing remote work will be considered after July 1.

All remote candidates will be considered; however, preference will be given to candidates based in Washington, D.C. You must have work authorization in your location that does not require sponsorship from Internews. Additionally, there are locations in which Internews is not able to support fully remote work.

DAY-TO-DAY TASKS will include:

Build power with our partners:

  • Manage our partnership portfolio: onboarding, capacity assessments, support plans;
  • Provide oversight + direct coaching resources to a portfolio of BIPOC/Immigrant serving news and information outlets;
  • Recruit and assign coaches, provide oversight, and track work plans;
  • Co-design and create a schedule of internal/external programming that supports capacity empowerment + power building;
  • Facilitate online resource sharing and dialogue around self-care, industry trends, and professional development opportunities.

Support the LPC brand and activities:

  • Support Listening Post Collective’s online identity including promoting and explaining our work via social media and email newsletters, updating the Listening Post Collective website, crafting online narratives about our work, and participating in online communities and conversations around topics of local journalism;
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date briefing and PR materials for active Listening Post Collective projects;
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, learning and knowledge sharing across Listening Post Collective partners and internally at Internews.

Support our internal LPC capacity:

  • Prepare proposals/research/reports; write, edit, proof, revise and assemble finished materials;
  • Maintain project activity files for project development, reports, and follow-up communications with partners and funders;
  • Assist the team with project oversight, including set-up for new projects, staff recruitment as needed and tracking progress towards program deliverables;
  • Provide project staff with support such as research, correspondence and procurement;
  • Coordinate travel logistics and arrange accommodations for partners as needed;
  • Prepare contracts and subawards documentation for review and approval;
  • Prepare invoices for review and payment approval;
  • Track and manage personnel invoices and contracts, expenses and credit reports;
  • In all duties, an understanding of and demonstrated commitment to upholding Internews’ Core Values.

 

QUALIFICATIONS WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Required

  • Relevant University degree required (i.e. communications, journalism, knowledge management);
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience in journalism, community organizing, media or NGO sectors;
  • Excellent analytical and writing ability for proposal development and external communications;
  • Excellent oral communication and presentation skills;
  • Experience with narrative writing and/or external communications;
  • Experience with social media;
  • Experience with MS Excel and Word;
  • Proven project management skills, with attention to detail;
  • Proven ability to manage and delegate resources;
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a multicultural environment

 

Preferred

  • Experience with graphic design software is a plus;
  • Experience with financial management;
  • Experience with event planning and/or arranging logistics;
  • Experience preparing expense reports and budgets;
  • Bilingual (in any language is a plus)
