Full-Time Head of Sports Science and Sports Medicine World Class Swimming Programme
Job Description
Job Location: To be agreed
The World Class Swimming Programme, one of the five aquatic disciplines, within British Swimming is seeking a successful leader to strategically manage the Sports Science and Sports Medicine (SSSM) programme.
As part of the senior management team, the post-holder will lead the development of the Olympic cycle plan for SSSM. Working collaboratively with programme and coaching staff, the post-holder will also identify and develop appropriate research and innovations which bring performance benefits to improve the medal potential of the World Class Swimming Programme in Tokyo and beyond.
The successful candidate will already be a high-achiever, having developed and managed an effective SSSM programme with exceptional standards of support, which has had a proven impact for an international sport. Previous experience of developing successful coach-SSSM collaborative relationships in order to maximise the quality of individual athlete planning will be a clear asset. Other desirable attributes for the position include experience of swimming at elite level.
The post requires broad knowledge of all the disciplines of SSSM as well as excellent, all-round leadership and management skills. An aptitude for analysing and translating performance data into sports science innovations which make a performance difference will be essential. The successful applicant will have demonstrated exceptional interpersonal skills which he/she has used to present compelling cases to gain coach and athlete ‘buy in.’ An ability to create inspiring and positively challenging environments, which stimulate coaching debate and discussion, will also be critical to the success of the remit.
Other desirable attributes include a strong desire to excel and the ability to set effective “stretch goals” for personal and SSSM programme accomplishment.
