Organization: National Security Innovation Network (NSIN)

Compensation: GS-14-equivalent compensation (contractor position)

Overview: 

Although the day-to-day duties and responsibilities of this role vary based on the needs of NSIN and the host university, you will spend most of your time: 

  • Engaging the Texas A&M University and surrounding partners to create opportunities for Texas A&M University students and personnel to collaboratively work on and solve Department of Defense problems through coursework, exposure to University resources and expertise, and creation of ventures;
  • Creating a national security problem-solving ecosystem in close partnership with Texas A&M University , the College Station, TX  venture ecosystem, and Department of Defense end users from throughout the area; 
  • Planning, delivering, and evaluating NSIN programs in partnership with Texas A&M University; and
  • Creating bespoke collaboration opportunities between the Department of Defense and the faculty and students at Texas A&M University.

About Your New Team:

NSIN is a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) organization with the mission to build networks of innovators that generate new solutions to national security problems. NSIN does this by building communities of non-traditional defense problem solvers from the academic and venture communities, presenting these communities with national security problems through direct interaction with the DoD, and supporting the further development and transition of these solutions into the DoD. The principal way in which NSIN achieves its mission is through three mutually supporting portfolios of programs: National Service, Collaboration, and Acceleration. NSIN’s Regional Network Team is physically located in more than 35 different locations throughout the United States and is responsible for building the new communities of problem-solvers through which NSIN executes its programs. About Your New Role:

In your new role as the University Program Director at Texas A&M University, you will get the opportunity to build and grow a network of national security problem solvers at the university to solve real world challenges in the Department of Defense (DoD). This includes leading the planning and execution of NSIN programs at Texas A&M University and the surrounding innovation ecosystem, coordinating and executing all NSIN led or co-sponsored events at Texas A&M University, supervising all personnel assigned to the University Program Director’s office at the university, and evaluating all programs and projects between NSIN and the university for measures of effectiveness and efficiency. (75%) 

 

You will also become a builder of relationships with staff, faculty, and students at Texas A&M University to support in the development of programs, curricula, projects, etc. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the intellectual community of the university; as well as review books, journals, and other sources to ensure currency related to NSIN programs. As the local representative of NSIN, you are the voice of NSIN at meetings, conferences and symposia that provide an essential information exchange between a wide variety of government agencies, academic institutions, and businesses. (15%)

 

You will also become the liaison between the local venture communities and the DoD and Texas A&M University, to develop collaboration opportunities and potential partnerships. (10%). 

 

What We Are Looking For in a Teammate:

  • Demonstrable knowledge of the Texas A&M University community and the entrepreneurial and venture ecosystems in College Station, TX .
  • Experience working with dual-use technology and national security policy communities.
  • Broad knowledge of academic research and commercial research and development relevant to emerging DoD capability needs.
  • Broad knowledge of emerging national security needs and associated Science and Technology programs.
  • Recent experience in technology projects involving inter-agency, inter-departmental, and international partners.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal communications skills, including oral and written skills.
  • Foresight, maturity, and the ability to negotiate amicable solutions to complex problems.
  • Travel may be required up to 15-20% of the time.

 

Compensation:

This position is a federal contractor position with GS-14 Level Compensation.
