Full-Time Lead Front-end Developer

matto – Posted by matto United States

Job Description

With Filmio (film.io), filmmakers can craft their stories in collaboration with the fans who love and support them, having free access to a platform where fans possess the power to validate, greenlight, and fund the entertainment they want to watch.

We are a 100% distributed team (mostly Pacific Time). If you’re pining to go back to the office once COVID is more under control, we are not the best fit. We’re rebuilding the front-end of our platform in React and will need you to do the lion’s share of the work. That said: you don’t have to know React. What? Did we just say that? Yes.

Here’s what we care about more:

  1. You care about people. (Yep, still haven’t mentioned React!)
  2. You care about Web Standards.
  3. You care and are knowledgeable about Accessibility.
  4. Semantic HTML, CSS, and non-framework-supported JavaScript skills are required.
  5. You are comfortable creating and receiving feedback on prototypes.
  6. You buy into documentation—reading it AND writing it.
  7. You communicate well—both written and verbal.
  8. You want to build in increments and test that way, too.
  9. React experience is a differentiator among applicants, but is not required
  10. 6+ years of professional development experience. We know time doesn’t necessarily equate capability, but this position isn’t for people recently out of a bootcamp.
  11. You have experience getting feedback from users.
  12. You want to keep learning.
  13. You want to argue comically about “Is it Front End, Frontend, or Front-end?” (hint: It’s Front-end.)

You will be the company’s first developer (after the CTO), but we expect you to work as if you are part of a team. You will work closely with the Lead Designer, the VP of UX, and the CTO. We all have strong opinions, but will cave in the face of evidence. If you show us a better way, we’re onboard. But we expect that of you, too.

This position is full-time, contract-to-hire, and pays $8,000 per month. At this time, there are no healthcare benefits (working on it!), but we demand (suggest) you take three weeks of vacation each year (plus the usual holidays). We work Monday through Friday. We try hard to not work on weekends, but sometimes we do. But we’d all prefer not to make that a regular thing.
