Full-Time Head of Translational Medicine US
Job Description
We are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Head of Translational Medicine US
As the Head of Translational Medicine, you will be responsible for the leadership of the Translational Medicine group comprising physicians and biomarker specialists focused on delivery of the early portfolio from target identification to clinical proof of concept/principle.
You like to work in an environment where you can:
- Take cross-functional and cross-departmental accountability for seamless transition of portfolio projects from preclinical to early clinical development (PoC) and transition to late phase development, in close collaboration with the relevant UCB departments and stakeholders.
- Drive the development of clinical program design strategies which build on UCB’s strengths and unique capabilities, emphasizing patient value, innovation, assuring the highest probability of success and establishing near-term and long-term objectives.
- Build a strong translational research platform to understand human disease biology and prepare for early clinical development, with focus on MOA, biology and identification of disease populations
You will contribute by:
- Contributing to the discovery of new therapeutic targets and identify relevant populations
- Providing translational and early development area expertise to research, clinical indication/ population strategy definition and design and execute of Experimental Medicine studies in support of discovery and early development programs.
- Leading and managing a team of physicians and biomarker specialists who work extensively through internal and external networks to deliver on the translational and clinical strategy.
- Building an external network of key opinion leaders and set up external collaborations to access cutting edge science to accelerate translational research and early clinical development
Interested? For this position you’ll need the following education, experience and skills:
Minimum Qualifications:
- MD or MD PhD with a strong academic and clinical record in the pharmaceutical industry
- 10+ years of experience in clinical drug development within the pharmaceutical industry
- 5+ years of experience in Phase 1-2 Clinical Development and /or in translational research or experimental medicine.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrable knowledge of and strong aptitude for translational research and early clinical drug development. Preferably with experience in developing solutions in rare diseases
- Strong drive to initiate and apply innovative approaches to early drug development
- Highly strategic with clear vision for asset and portfolio strategy
- Strong leadership skills, ensuring projects deliver with high quality, to time and on budget
- Inquisitive mindset and good problem solver
- Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders including project team members, senior management, key opinion leaders and regulatory agencies
- Inclusive, enthusiastic and collegiate approach enabling high quality performance in a matrix environment
- Strong team and people Leadership skills
