Duties

Wilder Research currently seeks an Associate Director to provide strategic and organizational leadership to staff. This position oversees organizational strategy and service operations to support research units, research talent management, support units, and MN Compass. The Associate Director reports directly to the Executive Director and has functional oversight for product quality, culture, staff development, and operational efficiency.

The Associate Director will oversee the recruitment of talent and develop and manage employees in ways that maximize effectiveness and create a positive office culture and clear expectations for performance and accountability. This position will provide direct supervision, support, and coaching to senior staff in order to enhance their effectiveness and leadership.

The Associate Director will develop and maintain a diverse workforce and ensure that services are delivered with cultural responsiveness. This position will ensure Wilder Research processes, policies, and procedures are in place and aligned with Wilder Foundation policies, to ensure efficient and effective team work. The Associate Director will develop and implement the vision and strategy for Wilder Research, and will plan and organize work relevant to core and strategic priorities, to increase the positive impacts of Wilder Research’s work. This position will coordinate the development of the annual operating budget, including research unit budgets, totaling about $8 million. This position will stay informed of business development opportunities and collaborate with managers to align opportunities with Wilder Research and Wilder Foundation goals.

The Associate Director will support research staff to conduct project work and will provide support and consultation to research staff to provide high-quality service to Wilder Research clients. They will provide subject matter expertise, consultation, and project advice as needed for specific projects and will support project design as well as the presentation and dissemination of research results to stakeholder groups and clients.

Job Qualifications

Master’s degree required, Ph.D. preferred. Twenty years of relevant applied research and evaluation experience can be exchanged for the Ph.D. for those with a Master’s degree in the social or behavioral sciences. 15 or more years of relevant experience required with Ph.D.

In addition, the successful candidate must have the ability, as demonstrated through formal training and experience, to:

 

  • Create and manage budgets for research and evaluation projects that range in size from small (under $10K) to large ($1 million+) and office-wide operations
  • Develop and manage contracts
  • Supervise senior staff, support the development of research staff at all levels, and oversee office-wide staff training and development
  • Develop and provide leadership to support a positive and inclusive workplace culture, effective teams, and effective leadership and decision-making processes
  • Ensure high quality products through rigorous quality control and assurance measures
  • Provide leadership focused on delivering results and producing positive impacts from applied research and evaluation, including  knowledge of using data to drive decisions
  • Develop strategic directions to implement vision and mission while managing teams
  • Lead social science research and evaluation projects
  • Negotiate with clients and work collaboratively with community-based organizations and diverse community members
  • Communicate research results effectively to diverse audiences, both orally and in easy-to-understand writing
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and related office software
