Part-Time Young Men’s Youth Support Worker
Job Description
- Earnings: £27,035 per annum pro rata
THE ROLE – Part-time (22.5 hours per week) / Two-year fixed-term contract / Job description and job pack is available to download from our website
We are looking for two Youth Support Workers who will be joining an innovative new pilot youth project working one-to-one with young men aged 16-22 years old, supporting them to identify their strengths and aspirations. Utilising a coaching and youth advocacy approach, the project will support a small cohort of young men over a two-year period, working closing with other services in the city to provide holistic young person centred support. We anticipate working with young men with multiple and complex needs who are either not accessing services, who have been referred into services but who have not been able to engage well with them, or those who are vulnerable to falling out of mainstream provision or existing services.
Based at the Brighton Youth Advice Centre, this role will work across the city, meeting young people in their own communities and building relationships with the young men and the wider stakeholders. The role will offer one-to-one consistent and time unbound support utilising a youth work model, working collaboratively with the young men to identify what their barriers are and make plans to overcome them. You will hold a case load of young men who will be worked with over a two-year period, you will support them to work with other agencies, families, communities not just focusing on them in isolation.
Your expected working pattern will be three day per week, some weekend and evening work will be expected – the specific days are yet to be agreed and can be discussed at interview.
WHO YOU ARE – We know that there are great candidates who will not fit everything we have described below, or who have important skills we have not mentioned. If that is you, please do not hesitate to apply and tell us about yourself.
You will be an experienced youth practitioner, ideally with a Youth Work qualification or equivalent. You will thrive in creating new projects and be able to confidently build relationships both with key partners across the city as well as with the young men you will be working with. You will also have an excellent understanding of what barriers young men may face in Brighton and Hove, and extensive experience of delivering projects in accessible ways to ensure engagement. In addition, you will have experience in managing a case load of young people and have an in-depth understanding of both children’s and adult safeguarding. Applications from candidates with lived experience will be welcomed.
