Immediate opening for YAAPP (Young Adult Abuse Prevention Program) Educator
Mission Statement: In collaboration with local partners and all affected by abuse, TTD creates innovative responses and mobilizes our community to promote safety and challenge systems of oppression and violence.
Job Summary: The YAAPP Educator is responsible for providing education and awareness activities on domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking to young adults in Cumberland County as part of TTD’s prevention program. This position is based at TTD’s administrative office in Cape Elizabeth, ME and includes regular work in the schools and greater community. Travel throughout Southern Maine is required. This is a full-time (40 hours per week) hourly position. Compensation starting at $18.00 per hour. TTD’s YAAPP program addresses the root causes of intersectional oppressions and deconstructs violent frameworks to bridge the personal and the political and empower individuals to create social change. Our work encourages relationships based on equality and empathy and strives to create a community of active bystanders.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
a. Assist in the development and provision of school based/youth prevention/ education activities, including presentations for faculty, students, and community groups.
b. Provide education, training, presentations, and other activities to schools, community groups, and other venues with a focus on domestic and sexual violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking, particularly but not exclusively as it relates to youth.
c. Provide safety planning, support, crisis intervention, and information and referral to community resources to victims and survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking.
d. Refer and link victims and survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking to all TTD services including but not limited to emergency shelter, groups, legal resources, face-to-face interactions.
e. Work with all who reach out to TTD to support and improve their understanding of domestic violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking.
Education, Training & Other Qualifications
a. Associate’s Degree or three year’s relevant professional experience
b. Successful completion of TTD hotline training, and participation in on-going education and training (post-hire)
c. Valid Maine driver’s license and automobile insurance
d. Satisfactory responses from government agencies to required background checks
e. Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of domestic and sexual violence, dating violence, human trafficking, and stalking
f. Experience with public speaking and group facilitation
g. Comfortable participating in theater for educational purposes and can believably portray a young adult in a skit
h. Comfortable and enthusiastic working with youth and able to work with a wide range of people
i. Effective written and oral communication skills
j. Basic computer competency
