Part-Time Wound Care and Enterostomal Therapy – Practice Lead

Job Description

We are currently looking for an RN for Wound/Ostomy and Pressure Injury Care, to join The Collaborative for Professional Practice. In this position, you will work across inpatient and ambulatory areas of the hospital in collaboration with the interdisciplinary Health Care team to provide expertise in the areas of:

Clinical Practice

  • Wound care and complex wound dressing including Vacuum Assisted Closure
  • Pressure ulcer prevention and management
  • Ostomy care, including pre-operative assessment and post-operative family teaching and discharge planning

Education

  • Support for Nursing clinical teams in best practice for wound care/Enterostomal therapy
  • Support for ambulatory patient teams and remote consultation for patients requiring paediatric wound care/Enterostomal support

Consultation

  • Consultation on a wide variety of paediatric patients with diverse diagnoses and acuity
  • Support patients in the pre-operative and immediate post-operative phase of ostomy care

Leadership/Change Agent

  • Support hospital-wide programming to build expertise and competency in pediatric nursing practice and care planning for pediatric patients.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

  • Assume a professional practice leadership role in influencing clinical nursing practice and the provision of care regarding wounds/ostomies and pressure injuries.
  • Provide preventative, acute and rehabilitative care to children, specializing in the management to ostomies, wounds, fistulas and alterations in skin integrity
  • Integrate knowledge of quality improvement and continuous improvement processes to support delivery of Enterostomal therapy across the hospital.
  • Work in collaboration with other members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Acts as a resource for health care professionals at SickKids, families, other hospitals, and community agencies.
  • Integrate research into practice.
  • Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge and collaborate on new pathways for patient service

Here’s What You’ll Need

Essential Requirements

  • Baccalaureate degree and/or Diploma in Nursing
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario and a strong theoretical knowledge in nursing
  • Fluent in the use of Electronic Medical Record and Documentation
  • High level experience in Home health care planning and discharge readiness
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to use your critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives.

Assets

  • Certificate from a recognized Enterostomal Therapy Program (or evidence/interest to work towards) is preferred
  • Graduate degree in Nursing or relevant health specialty is preferred
  • Membership with the Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapy is an asset
  • Recent clinical experience in paediatric nursing; surgical expertise is an asset
