Job Description
British Swimming is the national governing body for aquatic sports in Great Britain and is responsible internationally for representation of the sports at the highest performance levels. Our World Class Programmes have a number of Performance Centres with Manchester being the main daily training environment for a permanent athlete group in para swimming, as well as acting as a ‘performance hub’ for national programme-wide activity and a focal point for the provision of rehabilitation services for athletes.
Following a very successful Paralympic and Olympic Games in Tokyo, an exciting opportunity has arisen to join the technical coaching team within British Para-Swimming. British Swimming is recruiting a World Class Confirmation Coach to provide a world class standard of support to athletes and coaches new to the World Class Para Swimming Programme (WCPP). The successful post holder will work under the overall direction of the Performance Pathway Lead – Para Swimming (PPL-PS).
The World Class Confirmation Coach will be responsible for leading the induction programme of new athletes onto WCPP, and to support those athletes and home programme coaches during their transition. The successful candidate will lead with individual athlete planning and athlete hub visits for new WCPP athletes, including setting process goals in collaboration with other senior programme staff. The individual will be a key player in championing the standards of the WCPP culture, ethos, athlete, and coaching behaviours across all programme activity and operating a one team approach across the programme. They will work with other key staff to give opportunities to promising pathway athletes to access the Manchester Performance Centre, as well as being involved in coaching delivery for hub-based activity. The post holder will also work With Home Nations (HN) in identifying and transitioning new talent (athletes and coaches) onto WCPP and in-conjunction with the PPL-PS and HN ensure all pathways are aligned where possible.
The successful candidate will have on-deck swimming coaching experience developing athletes towards Paralympic/Olympic standard, with a strong understanding of Para-Swimming, including world standards and the domestic performance pathway. You will be able to demonstrate an ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team to drive individual athlete and coach development. British Swimming will be looking for candidates with the key, ‘world class’ coaching attributes, such as presenting compelling cases for improved practices, always acting as a positive influence, setting high professional standards, and promoting full commitment to the programme. The individual will also be able to demonstrate how you continually set stretch targets and challenge yourself professionally.
