Primary Purpose
Wildfire risk is the top risk for the company as scored by the Enterprise Risk Management team. The Wildfire Safety Division (WSD, a division within the CPUC) utilizes a maturity model survey to monitor and communicate progress of the innovations and future development of wildfire mitigation programs. The WSD is constantly updating the requirements for risk evaluation and scoring each initiative to mitigate wildfires. This role continually evaluates and develops wildfire risk models. Develops methodology and scoring for each initiative and informs the company and regulators each step of the way. Oversees the Wildfire Mitigation Program (WMP) team responsible for staying ahead of the wildfire mitigation work needed to keep local communities safe. Creates a comprehensive strategy for the company on reducing wildfire risk and communicating this strategy to executive management. Manages the risk of wildfire from power lines and develops ways to monitor, assess, and model the risk across various internal organizations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop strategic plan and forward-looking roadmap for wildfire mitigation. Develop risk reduction strategies and risk assessment models to allow prioritization of mitigations and risk reduction predictions. Develop, train, and oversee WMP team members. Coordinate required resources to complete activities needed to complete and implement WMP OIR. Seek/develop successful wildfire mitigation and vegetation management regulatory and legislative outcomes. Lead WMP related activities to ensure full compliance and risk reduction. Support the Emergency Operations Center functions in electric commodity liaison or distribution operations.
  • Lead and be the point of contact for the strategic approach to meet CPUC evolving requirements for wildfire risk and mitigations, including long-term plans for advancing risk reduction approaches. Manage WMP de-energization activities and ensure compliance-related tasks are performed within tolerance. Provide guidance in understanding changes in regulation and develop and update department procedures. Oversee preparation of all required documentation for audits (CPUC and internal). Participate as a subject matter expert (SME) during interviews with auditors. Report progress on the wildfire safety strategy and represent the strategy to the CPUC, external stakeholders, internal stakeholders, and lawmakers. Present at meetings with legislators, regulators, external stakeholders, joint utility efforts, and other collaborations.
  • Collaborate with internal and external departments, and special working groups, such as Reliability Assessment Team and Enterprise Risk Group to continually improve fire mitigation activities. Increase cross company awareness of risk evaluation techniques and processes to allow for more innovation. Conduct the WSD issued Utility Wildfire Maturity Model Assessment survey annually to coordinate with the cross-functional teams and represent results to the WSD and other stakeholders. Gather input from across the company for this survey, represent the results to the regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage group budget. Review budget reports and forecast future spending. Evaluate spend and risk to rank the wildfire mitigation initiatives for cost/benefit analysis on risk reduction results.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, finance, law or other related fields, OR equivalent training and/or equivalent experience.
  • 8 years relevant experience, such as project management, compliance and/or regulatory experience.
  • 2 years lead, project lead or supervisory experience.
  • Requires the ability to effectively lead and manage projects.
  • Strong leadership and personnel management skills required.
  • Must demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • This position requires providing support during emergency operations.
  • Must reside in Southern California or be willing to relocate upon hire.
  • We offer a hybrid work environment. Although the schedule may vary, typically this will allow you to work from the office two to three days per week and work remotely on the remaining workdays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years experience in a risk assessment and strategy development.
  • Knowledge of the CPUC regulatory process is desirable.
