Full-Time Web Designer
Job Description
The Web Designer will work at the Wisconsin Center for Education Research (WCER). The person in this position will bring creative design skills to websites, web applications, and WordPress sites to WCER’s research community and service units. They will advance WCER’s strategic goals and values by creating innovative digital design solutions with an emphasis on delivering a compelling user experience for research projects and researchers across the globe. Critical to this position is the ability to work collaboratively across teams. The candidate should possess a mindset for continuous improvement, a passion for providing excellence in customer service, and a broad set of artistic and technical skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and designs the user interface and overall user experience for websites and applications. May train staff and direct the work of others. Contributes to digital media strategic initiatives and serves as a subject matter expert regarding website design and layout.
35% Develops and designs the overall navigation flow, layout of specific pages, and creation of individual graphic elements; ensures that all design elements, templates, and finished solutions work within a variety of browser types and screen settings along with the constraints set by development and design
20% Provides design maintenance of websites and other electronic publications and applications
10% Develops and implements strategic digital media initiatives, priorities, objectives, and best practices in collaboration with leadership and other functional work units
10% Implements graphical and style standards for web sites
5% Serves as a subject matter expert and unit liaison to other departments to design graphics and layouts
10% Tracks and manages timelines and deliverables related to communication projects
10% Creates, designs, and produces artwork per project specifications through various mediums
TION:

Bachelor’s Degree
Bachelor’s preferred but will consider an an Associate’s degree with strong experience.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
– Minimum 2 years of professional experience providing creative original digital designs implemented as websites, web-based applications, or WordPress sites.
– Excellent communication skills
– Excellent attention to detail
– Flexibility and adaptability and a desire to learn continuously
– Commitment to creating a workplace that values diversity, equity, and inclusion
– Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse community of research staff, service unit staff, principal investigators, and WCER leadership
– Strong technical skills including experience working with WordPress, WordPress plugins, HTML/CSS, Bootstrap, wireframe tools, Adobe CC, and responsive design techniques.
Preferred:
– Ability and enthusiasm to work with clients around diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) concerns appropriate to web and artistic issues
– Ability to inspire and lead
– Strong project management skills
– Track record of problem-solving for the client, within budgetary and technical constraints
– Strong social-emotional skills
– Ability and enthusiasm to leverage off-the-shelf solutions when possible, to create excellent design work
SALARY:
Minimum $70,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
