Our goal at the Biomimicry Institute is to make nature-inspired innovation a part of everyday living. We accomplish this by offering AskNature.org, a free online tool that contains strategies found in nature and examples of ways they are used in design. We also host a Youth Design Challenge to support project-based education; a Biomimicry Launchpad to incubate new biomimicry ideas; the Ray of Hope Prize® to scale biomimetic companies; and a Biomimicry Global Network that connects innovators across the world. Most recently, we launched a multi-year collaborative initiative called Design for Decomposition which will pilot technologies that convert discarded clothes and textiles into biocompatible raw materials.
As the Biomimicry Institute Web Design Manager, you will work closely with our Communications Director and work with various consultants in web and design projects from start to publication with a focus on delivering well-designed, high-quality educational content. You will also work closely with Directors from each of our initiatives to enhance the user experience and web presence across our programs.

Job Description
We are looking for a person who will manage multiple website platforms across the Biomimicry Institute (Biomimicry.org; AskNature.org; YouthChallenge.biomimicry.org). The Web Design Manager would develop strategies to improve design, user journey, and SEO, as well as manage MailChimp newsletter design and audience management. They will work closely with the Communications Director and program leads to execute on those strategies.
General Responsibilities for this Role
- General Website and Management Responsibilities: Maintaining general website updates and improving user experience
- MailChimp and Data Management: Serve as super user for audience newsletter needs
- Google Analytics and AdWords: Tracking performance of sites and newsletters; creating strategic plan for increasing SEO content and providing recommendations as well as delivery upon approval
- Graphic Design Creation and Support: Lead visual design as needed throughout the year and work with contractors as needed
Qualifications and Skills
- Have led third-party contractors and resources to bring a project to completion
- Can accurately scope projects to provide timeline estimates & deliver high quality projects on time
- Excellent layout and presentation skills (landing and web pages)
- Proficiency in WordPress
- Have designed and led development for non-profit or for-profit marketing sites
- Proficiency and hands-on experience with Web Applications and programming languages such as HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, PHP, and API’s
- Proficiency in web development & backend systems
- Graphic design skills and experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
- Competency in G-Suite products
- Knowledge of MailChimp email platform
- Understands branding, marketing, user-experience design and typography
- Deep understanding of photography and imagery: knowledge of how to find and curate great nature content while also working with collaborators in the space, including Indigenous and BIPOC creators
- Validated understanding of web performance, SEO & conversion rate optimization

Salary Range
$58K – $62K
