Full-Time VP, Risk Manager I- 3rd Party Risk Management & New Initiatives (Req#2743)

Job Description

The primary responsibilities of the VP Risk Manager I is to provide the primary support for the bank’s Operational Risk Management, Third Party Risk Management and New Initiative programs.  The incumbent will report directly to the VP, Risk Manager III, Operational Risk Management. This individual acts as an agent of change as the corporation transitions to an enterprise perspective of risk management. The VP Risk Manager I collaborates with Lines of Business and second line stakeholders by acting as a risk advisor and partner to support a risk aware culture.  A successful candidate will ensure risks introduced by the business units through the Third-Party Risk Management and New Initiative programs are effectively identified, assessed, mitigated, and reported within the Bank.  The role will support continuous improvement of the Third Party and New Initiative risk management frameworks, tools, policies, and procedures to ensure the bank is in compliance with relevant regulations and guidance.

  • Responsible for advancing and operating the bank’s Third-Party Risk Management and New Initiative second line programs. The candidate will work with business partners in first- and second-line risk functions across all major divisions to ensure that periodic assessments are accurately produced.  Specifically,
    • Lead the annual third-party monitoring and third-party risk assessments to support the identification, escalation, monitoring and reporting of third-party risks.
    • Lead the New Initiatives program and ensure appropriate risk reviews are performed, change risk is assessed, captured, mitigated, and reported as appropriate.
  • Identify and initiate improvements in programs, tools, and processes and ensure established processes meet program requirements, regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and organizational objectives.
  • Ensure policy standards and regulatory requirements for associated programs are adhered to and make recommendations for policy updates based upon regulatory guidance and corporate standards.
  • Drive operational risk awareness and training programs within the bank to promote a risk focused culture and enhance risk literacy across departments.
  • Stay updated with industry best practices, emerging trends, and regulatory changes related to operational risk, third party risk, and new initiative risks in the banking sector, and provide recommendations accordingly.
  • Partner with internal auditors and external examiners to assist with risk related audits and examinations.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to team members and direct reports, fostering professional growth and development.

         PROBLEM SOLVING & DECISION MAKING: 

The VP Risk  Manager I plays a pivotal role in making critical decisions that impact the Third Party and New Initiative Risk Management frameworks. This position requires a high level of problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex risk issues to develop effective solutions. The VP Risk Manager I will need to work both independently and in collaborative environments and will require strong organizational and communication skills. The VP Risk Manager I will work closely with management and collaborate with various stakeholders to establish and advance the risk frameworks and standards, ensuring alignment with industry best practices, and bank’s overall objectives. The decisions made by the VP Risk Manager I directly impact the implementation of risk management initiatives and drives a risk focused culture within the organization.  The role will require analysis and reporting on risk assessments to inform internal and external stakeholders.  Program responsibilities are visible to management and the regulators.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience.  Advanced degree is a plus.
  • 5-10 years of proven experience in risk management, internal audit, bank operations, or banking industry, or other related risk or control function
  • Strong foundation in Third Party Risk Management a plus

Skills/Knowledge

  • Ability to apply risk management concepts to a business setting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex risk management issues, provide effective solutions, strategic risk insights, lead change, and escalate significant concerns to their manager.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the bank and convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams and drive change management initiatives within a midsize bank setting.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficient Microsoft Office and knowledge of GRC Systems (e.g., Archer)
  • Effective written and oral communication
