We are looking for a Volunteer Resources Specialist to be an integral member of the Volunteer Resources Team. Our volunteers are a valuable asset to the hospital.  They truly make a difference in the lives of patients and their families, while complementing the role of staff.  Working in Volunteer Resources provides an opportunity to ‘give back’ in a unique way and gives great insight into the hospital as a world renowned organization.

Here’s What You’ll Get To Do

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct volunteer needs assessments with staff from across the hospital. Identify strategies to fill these needs that are aligned with the Hospital’s values and strategic plans
  • Interview and assess candidates
  • Monitor volunteer progress and address issues/concerns
  • Take the lead on managing a number of specified volunteer programs and areas within the Hospital (Child Life, Community Groups, High School Co-op and Volunteer Team lead programs)
  • Engage and motivate volunteers (events, recognition, education)
  • Lead and participate in projects that drive the delivery of excellence (continuous improvement plans)
  • Design new programs and enhance existing programs, processes and practices
  • Address large volumes of ongoing questions from volunteers, volunteer supervisors, and the public in person, by phone and email

Here’s What You’ll Need

  • Minimum 3 years experience within Volunteer Administration or a volunteer environment and CCVA certification or the willingness to obtain the certification is highly preferred. HR experience would also be an asset, however not a requirement
  • Demonstrate sustained professional, respectful and positive behaviours
  • Strong communication skills in dealing with people at all levels both inside and outside of the Hospital
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to deal with multiple and simultaneous priorities.  Ability to maintain focus with frequent interruptions
  • Effective listening skills complemented by an ability to provide clear, useful feedback and coaching to staff and volunteers
  • High level of sound judgment, confidentiality, problem solving, diplomacy and relationship building skills
  • Self motivated, exceptional customer relationship and teaming skills
  • Innovation and forward thinking
  • Excellent computer skills including VSys One (Volunteer Management System), PeopleSoft, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with the aptitude to develop other necessary skills
