Full-Time Volunteer Coordinator
Job Description
Job Objective:
The Venture Out Project (TVOP) is a nonprofit organization that leads backpacking and wilderness trips for the queer and transgender community. We also conduct transgender inclusion workshops for educators, adventure professionals, summer camps, and more.
Our current volunteer program is vital to us and to the communities we serve. We are thrilled to add a full time team member managing this part of our organization. This position will be working with current and new volunteers across the entire United States to grow our national footprint in support of our goal that by 2026 all LGBTQ+ people will have a TVOP event available to them within a days’ drive.
We are looking for someone to build upon our pilot program and take it to the next level.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Envision and build upon the current volunteer program in support of our goal to provide TVOP programming across the US
- Recruit new volunteers from around the United States to join our organization through both online channels and some in-person travel
- Build upon current training program to ensure consistency across volunteers
- Create a system to manage and track volunteers including scheduling and support
- Create a system to celebrate volunteers and the work they do including ways for volunteers to communicate with one another and the TVOP team
- Collaborate with other TVOP staff on events, projects, etc
- Other administrative tasks for the organization as needed
Job Requirements:
- Experience running a volunteer program
- Personal and professional values consistent with TVOP’s mission, values, and principles and commitment to building community and diversifying the outdoors
- Interest in, or willingness to learn outdoor activities
- Able to give and receive timely, effective oral and written feedback
- Effective leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Strong personal initiative, motivation, and resourcefulness
- Willingness to learn business management skills including basic accounting, budget planning, and communications
- Cooperative attitude and ability to be flexible
- Experience with Queer Community
- Willingness to work some nights and weekends as needed
- 25-30% travel out of Northampton
Salary and Benefits
- Salary Range: $39,000-$48,000
- Start Date: Mid-late March 2022
