3Play Media Canada is seeking a reliable, hard-working, individual with strong spelling and grammar skills to fill the role of Voice Captioner located in our Mohkinstsis (Calgary) office.
If you are interested in broadcast media and have excellent written and oral English communication skills, apply now to become a Voice Captioner with 3Play Media Canada. You will be trained to use voice recognition software to create captions for live broadcast programming and time-coding software to align text to recorded media.
The ideal candidate will have a combination of the following skills and competencies:
- Excellent written and oral English communication skills
- An articulate, clear, and strong speaking voice
- Demonstrated time-management skills
- Ability to respond calmly, and think quickly under pressure
- Keen interest in geography, sports, politics, and current affairs
- Experience proofreading, editing text for 100% accuracy would be an asset
- Strong technical and computer proficiency skills would be an asset
- Native English fluency
- Spanish or French fluency considered an asset
Candidates will undergo competency tests.
Special preference will be given to those with a second language and/or a post-secondary education.
Starting Salary is $18.00/hr during training and increase to $20/hr after training and probationary period is completed.
Work Schedule
- Full-time positions averaging 36 hours/week
- Late-evening shift work including some weekends
Selection Process
The selection process for this role includes 2 components. First you will be asked to complete an online spelling, punctuation, and grammar test. If successful you will be asked to complete a practical respeaking test. Successful candidates will be invited to interview.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, modems, microphones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. Employees spend a large part of their day alone in the studio, which are small spaces and can get very warm with all the running equipment.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, including speaking for long periods of time. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required to this job include close vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
