Position Summary
This position will support research projects devoted to the research of Dr. Tamara Hamlish including The Young and A Survivor (YAAS!): Network for Health Equity Among Young Breast Cancer Survivors is a CDC-funded collaborative to expand the availability and access to supportive services for young breast cancer survivors, young women with metastatic breast cancer, and their families and caregivers. This position also assists Research Scientists/Principal Investigators with planning and implementing community outreach programs, supporting research project recruitment efforts, disseminating culturally and linguistically relevant cancer materials and research project findings, and writing progress reports to funding agencies and various stakeholders.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Participates in specialized community-based research in collaboration with the research team.
- Oversees project and grant deliverables
- Trains and supervises research assistants/project team members.
- Adheres to research aims to achieve sponsor objectives
- Collects and summarizes data and information and reports findings to Scientists/Principal Investigators, research staff, and community partners.
- Assist with scientific reports and summarizing research findings for papers, presentations, and other documents.
- Develops and maintains research records, tracks community activities, and compiles list of resources for community members
- Identify and establish good working relationships with peers at other research sites, Cancer Centers, university departments, and appropriate University personnel to achieve defined goals and objectives and liaise with the research project teams.
- Supporting special events and activities led by the research team and its partners.
- Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned by supervisor/manager.
- Manage and oversee the implementation of the community engagement strategy
- Manage and oversee data collection and data evaluation. Analyze and interpret data.
- Prepares and organizes results and contributes to the preparation of papers, grants, grant reports, and other documents based on project results.
- Oversees and participates in sustaining YAAS! network of academic and community partnerships.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field required.
- Knowledge of fundamental research concepts, practices and procedures.
- Entry level knowledge of research methods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using social media for community outreach and engagement strongly preferred (e.g., Facebook and Facebook live, Instagram, YouTube, podcasts, blogs, newsletters, etc.)
- Experience in community health, community-based research, or cancer patient advocacy; demonstrated experience building and sustaining community partnerships, including cancer patient advocacy and support organizations/agencies, as well as community-based healthcare providers.
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, team-oriented, and work closely with multiple stakeholders.
- Possess analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- The successful candidate will be a self-directed, adaptive independent thinker with program-solving abilities and a high level of interpersonal skills and professionalism.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
