Full-Time Video Editor

Job Description

As a member of the Marketing Department, the Video Editor is responsible for editing, creating and managing compelling conservation travel videos to inspire Nat Hab’s target audiences and increase viewer engagement on social media, via emails, and on the nathab.com website.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

To perform this job successfully, the applicant must be able to perform the following duties well. Additional duties may be added or assigned at any time.

 

Video Editing & Creation

  • Oversee the creation of concise, captivating, shareable videos to drive engagement on Nat Hab’s social media and other marketing platforms by generating viewer excitement about wildlife and conservation travel, preparing travelers for their upcoming nature adventures, and sharing highlights from past trips.
  • Use existing video footage and visual assets to edit, convert, format, and export high-quality videos on a regular basis, including color correction, image stabilization and enhancements, graphic and/or text overlays, visual effects, music editing, sound design, and sound mixing.
  • Optimize videos for mobile viewing on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, including crafting multiple versions tailored for peak performance on different social media newsfeeds, reels and stories.
  • Continually ensure that all videos adhere to Nat Hab’s brand identity and messaging guidelines.
  • Develop, refine and standardize distinctive styles to elevate and unify Nat Hab’s branding across video series, video ad campaigns, and social media platforms.

 

Video Concept Development

  • Collaborate with Nat Hab’s external Videographer and internal Video Team to generate ideas for video topics based on trip booking seasons, priority destinations, company and travel industry announcements, current events and conservation news, traveler stories, naturalist guides’ field experiences, and synchronizing with Nat Hab’s other marketing initiatives (emails, blog posts, mailers, website, etc.).
  • Proactively brainstorm and develop original concepts for new short-form social media videos, video ads, and longer-form storytelling videos such as promos, educational/explainer videos, commercials, cinematics, sizzle reels, animated motion graphics, etc.
  • Support the external Videographer with the storyboarding, production, filming and editing of longer-form videos and organization of related digital assets.

 

Digital Media Asset Management & Curation

  • Manage Nat Hab’s growing media library by continually organizing digital media assets, including ongoing inventory maintenance, tagging, and archival of videos, b-roll, photos, graphics and metadata.
  • Frequently review Nat Hab’s video library to identify and select the most eye-catching nature, wildlife, travel, and human storytelling footage for use in various video projects.
  • Communicate with past travelers, staff and Nat Hab’s worldwide team of contract Expedition Leaders to facilitate the transfer of videos and photos from their field experiences to Nat Hab’s digital media library.
  • Collaborate with the external Videographer and internal Video Team to identify and implement enhancements to Nat Hab’s digital media asset management systems.

 

 

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

Experience

  • 3+ years’ professional experience using Adobe Premiere Pro to complete all steps of postproduction to produce and edit high-quality videos, particularly mobile-oriented, short-form video content for social media platforms.
  • 3+ years’ professional experience managing digital media assets, including organizing, indexing, tagging, and archiving a catalog of videos, b-roll, photos and graphics.
  • Proven editing prowess in the form of professional video reels and/or samples of previous editing work.
  • Proficiency using Adobe After Effects software to create animated motion graphics and visual effects such as overlays, intros, outros, titles and transitions is preferred but not required.

 

Additional Skills & Abilities

  • Comfortable using and transitioning between common video codecs, frame rates/sizes, resolutions, aspect ratios, proxy files, and file/export formats.
  • Familiarity with video compression, encoding, transcoding and outputting processes.
  • Experience using mobile app-based editing tools to create and enhance videos for social media viewing.
  • Ability to effectively balance competing priorities, goals and timelines to meet key project deadlines.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and dedication to consistency, workflow efficiency and quality-control.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with high levels of integrity, maturity and enthusiasm.
  • Passion for self-education, problem solving, and quickly learning new software and other skills on the job.
  • Commitment to adapting and editing video content to leverage the latest visual and social media tools.
  • Familiarity with usage rights and permissions for licensing third-party audio, music and video footage.
  • Demonstrated understanding of creative narrative storytelling and story arc construction.
  • Proficiency with other creative software (such as Adobe Media Encoder, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Audition) is preferred. Basic animation, audio, and graphic design skills are also valuable.
  • Social media video content management experience (specifically with Facebook, Instagram and YouTube) is preferred, even if the videos were shared primarily for personal rather than professional purposes.
  • Basic understanding of advanced postproduction tasks and concepts, including the conform, color grading, compositing, logo or wire removal, reflection or grain removal, time morphs, and motion tracking.
  • Possess a demonstrated passion for travel/tourism, nature/wildlife or related fields. International travel experience is preferred but not required.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee will also be required to type, move a computer cursor and write. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Compensation commensurate with experience: Base salary range of $55,000-$65,000 USD, plus annual bonus.

 

This position comes with generous Paid Time Off and paid holidays. Benefits include site inspection on Natural Habitat Adventures trips and discounts on outdoor gear and clothing. Eligibility for medical insurance, participation in 401(k) with company match and parental leave after a predetermined period of time.

 

LOCATION

Nat Hab currently has a hybrid work model, with some days working in-person at the office (optional) and some days working from home for those employees who live near the Nat Hab headquarters in Boulder County, Colorado. This is subject to change as the COVID-19 situation evolves. Residing in the Denver Metro Area is preferred but not required.
