Clark College is currently accepting applications for a full-time, permanent, classified Veterans Certifying Official (Program Specialist 2). Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain knowledge of issues pertaining to VA education benefits and Department of Defense (DoD) Federal Tuition Assistance (TA) and State Approving Authority
- Submit enrollment certifications to Veteran’s Affairs (VA)
- Ensure that students are aware of how to use their benefits
- Confirm school practices are compliant with VA, DoD and State regulations
- Maintain an enrollment verification system
- Submit updated certifications
- Submit TA grades
- Troubleshoot account reconciliation issues
- Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of all federal, state, and institutional sources of financial aid and regulations
- Assist students and families, other College offices, and sponsoring agencies with various financial matters
- Prepare, review, and respond to a broad range of financial aid interactions
- Review and resolve application and eligibility problems
- Prepare, maintain, and analyze various reports
- Provide information related to institutional scholarships
- Oversee the development and implementation of information for public distribution
- Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements and Competencies:
Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education, Human Services, Student Personnel Administration, Business Administration, or related areas of study.
- One year of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to complete and maintain, upon hire, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) training modules necessary to attain the School Certifying Official (SCO) certificate.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Proficient in student information systems and customer relationship software
- Prior military service
Job Readiness/Working Conditions:
- The initial appointment will include a 6-month probationary period and the employee will earn permanent status after successfully completing probation.
- This position is represented by Washington Public Employees Association.
- Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.
