The Challenge
We are looking for a skilled mechanic to join our Halifax Equipment Shop team to do semi-skilled and skilled small engine, automotive, heavy equipment and marine mechanic work. Your work will range from inspection/service to highly-complex mechanical systems analysis using advanced diagnostic instruments and software. Your work assignments will normally be received as written or verbal work orders, usually indicating the general nature of the task or description of the problem.
In this role you will:
    • Service, diagnose, repair, and rebuild mechanical systems for gas-, diesel-, and alternative-powered engines/equipment.
    • Conduct parts/systems failure analysis.
    • Calibrate, adjust and operate engine analyzers.
    • Follow standard operational guidelines and encourage shop safety.
    • Use vendor manuals and manufacturer publications/bulletins to build and apply technical knowledge/skills.
    • Occasionally modify standard practices/procedures due to unusual situations.
    • Routinely determine materials, techniques and tools to accomplish work.
    • Tackle new or unusual assignments that may be accompanied by more detailed instructions.
What You Bring
    • Experience performing preventive maintenance on light, medium, heavy duty trucks, or heavy equipment.
    • Experience diagnosing basic electrical systems and proper wiring repairs.
    • Experience in basic hydraulic system repairs including component replacement and hoses.
    • Experience troubleshooting and repairing at least one of the following; light, medium, heavy duty or farm equipment brake components.
    • Knowledge of diagnostic software, tools and equipment for trucks and heavy equipment.
    • Good listening skills and ability to follow instructions.
    • Skills to apply techniques, principles, and methods involved in determining and solving basic mechanical problems.
    • Skilled use of tools, instruments, and machines in automotive/equipment shop.
    • Ability to diagnose/provide service/repairs/replacements to basic vehicle equipment.
    • Ability to work in an indoor/outdoor environment.
Notes
    • You must possess a valid commercial driver’s (CDL) license – Class “A” with “N” endorsement within 90 days of hire, and, if you don’t have that, then a permit within 60 days of hire.
    • A pre-employment drug test is required.
    • We will do a background check with previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances and alcohol.
    • We may require current EPA certification as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician.
Education & Experience
    • High School/GED diploma, and
    • 2+ years of relevant experience, or
    • A combination of education and experience.
