Now Hiring: Utility Locator
The City of Oshkosh is seeking a dedicated Utility Locator to join our team. This position may be filled as either a Utility Locator I or Utility Locator II. This is a progressive position allowing for advancement based on experience, knowledge, and demonstrated abilities. There are two levels of Utility Locators, and the placement of candidates upon hire will be dependent on experience.
This essential role involves the efficient, accurate, and thorough field locating of public sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, and lateral infrastructure. This position operates under moderate supervision and requires regular, punctual attendance with the ability to work overtime and respond swiftly to after-hours emergencies.
This is a non-exempt position with a full benefits package:
- Pay Range Utility Locator I – $44,479.50 – $50,836.50
- Pay Range Utility Locator II – $47,541 – $54,327
Key Responsibilities
- Field Locates: Conduct field locates for existing City infrastructure, utilizing various electronic devices to mark and identify utilities.
- Emergency Locates: Provide timely responses to emergency call-ins related to City infrastructure.
- GIS Updates/Coordination: Communicate updates to the Engineering Division Staff regarding discrepancies between on-field data and the City’s Geographic Information System (GIS).
- Equipment Maintenance: Care for the City’s locating equipment, vehicles, and supplies.
- Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned to support the team and City operations.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Utility Locator I
- An Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Mapping or a related program, or field experience in utility locating or construction.
- Construction experience is preferred.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
Utility Locator II
- An Associate Degree in Engineering Technology, Mapping or related program.
- A minimum of five (5) years of field experience in utility locating or construction.
- Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
