Full-Time Utility Coordinator
Job Description
- Develop utility relocation strategies and provide coordination services to accomplish removal, relocation, and modification of utility facilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunication, etc.) impacted by highways improvement projects.
- Develop Utility Analysis & Preliminary Routing reports, utility relocation schedules, utility plans, and estimates.
- Authorize utility company relocations and administer contracts consisting of utility relocation agreements for adjustments to existing and proposed facilities and encroachment contracts (permits for occupancy of highway right of way) due to highway construction.
- Implement advanced engineering criteria and innovative construction methods in the coordination, relocation, and placement of utilities along highway rights of way and proposed corridors while adhering to applicable environmental regulations and roadway design standards.
- Review simple and complex highway plans in various stages of completion for accuracy of utility data.
- Conduct field inspections for verification of data, and consult with interdepartmental units and utility owners.
- Train and provide technical assistance to others and giving clear instructions and directions to utility company staff and NCDOT staff concerning utility/highway matters.
- Read and interpret highway plans.
- Experience performing inspections of utility relocation and/or construction as part of highway projects and/or utility encroachments.
- Experience reading and interpreting construction plans, cross sections and/or utility relocations.
- Experience communicating effectively with the public, contractors, utility owners and team members.
- Experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously and completing assignments within specified time requirements.
- Experience performing work-related tasks independently or with limited supervision.
- Thorough knowledge of NC General Statutes, Federal Highway (FHWA), and NCDOT policies and procedures related to utility placement and relocations.
- Ability to train and provide technical assistance to others and giving clear instructions and directions to utility company staff and NCDOT staff concerning utility/highway matters.
- Ability to read and interpret highway plans.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, and
- 6+ years of progressive technician experience; or
- A high school/GED diploma, and
- 8+ years of progressive technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
