Full-Time Utilities Coordinator – NEW HIGHER SALARY!
Job Description
- Develop utility relocation strategies and provide coordination services for the removal, relocation, and modification of utility facilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunication, etc.) impacted by highway improvement projects.
- Develop Utility Analysis & Preliminary routing reports, utility relocation schedules, and utility plans and estimates.
- Authorize utility company relocations and administer contracts consisting of utility relocation agreements for adjustments to existing and proposed facilities and encroachment contracts (permits for occupancy of highway right of way) due to highway construction. Implements advanced engineering criteria and innovative construction methods in the coordination, relocation and placement of utilities along highway rights of way and proposed corridors while adhering to applicable environmental regulations and roadway design standards.
- Review complex highway plans in various stages of completion for accuracy of utility data.
- Conduct field inspections for data verification.
- Consult with interdepartmental teams and utility owners.
- Experience performing inspection of utility relocation/construction as part of highway projects/utility encroachments.
- Experience reading and interpreting highway construction plans and cross sections/utility relocations.
- Excellent communication skills to engage the public, contractors, utility owners and other NCDOT staff.
- Project management experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously and completing assignments within specified time requirements.
- Ability to work well independently or with limited supervision.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Civil Engineering, including highway construction and maintenance methods and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret highway construction plans and analyze and solve difficult highway maintenance and construction problems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage with NCDOT staff, government officials, private engineers/developers, and the public.
- Computer skills to using Microsoft Office and online databases (SAP).
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- You will be subject to outside environmental conditions, noise and traffic hazards, and will be required to traverse difficult and steep terrain.
- Travel to field sites for meetings and investigations with occasional overnight travel is required.
