We are currently hiring for the position of:
USHER
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Visitor Experience Operations, under the supervision of the Cinema Supervisor on duty, the Cinema Usher provides customer service to TIFF Bell Lightbox visitors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain a high standard of entrance-to-exit visitor servicing, assisting with the resolution of visitor issues in a timely and appropriate manner in keeping with established Visitor Experience protocol
- Maintain knowledge of TIFF Bell Lightbox, its programming, events and facilities
- Communicate instructions effectively to visitors and volunteers. Direct visitors to appropriate cinemas. Maintain orderly line-ups as directed by your supervisor
- Ensure that all visitors present a ticket before entering ticketed events or areas.
- Maintain presentation standards of lobby areas before, during and after events. Clean cinemas between screenings, collecting any debris and cleaning any spills prior to the next screening
- Assist with the set-up and strike of stanchions, coat check, t-stands, stage furniture, and tables throughout the building
- Provide support to third party events and partner festivals as required
- Receive/return items and reconcile cash receipts at Coat Check
- Arrive on-time for scheduled shifts, wearing approved uniform or dress code and prepared for shift.
- Complete assigned tasks effectively and promptly
- Ensure the safety of the visitors to TIFF Bell Lightbox (including in the event of evacuation)
- Maintain proper radio etiquette and ensure the proper care of radio devices
- Other duties as assigned
RATE OF PAY:
- $16.55/hr
TARGET CONTRACT START DATE:
- December 4, 2023 – 10 week contract with possibility of extension
WORK LOCATION:
- In-Person: 350 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to provide availability for at least three shifts per week (1 weekday, 1 weekend, 1 additional) for each week outside of the Festival
- Must be available to work each day of the Toronto International Film Festival in September as well as each training day
- Must be available to work shifts as assigned from December 22, 2023 – January 4, 2024
- Must be adaptable to a flexible work schedule that includes evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Previous work experience in a Front of House role is an asset
- Proven ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
- May be required to lift and carry items up to 35lbs
- Position requires standing for long periods and climbing stairs. Accommodations may be provided if necessary
- Able to communicate fluently in English; knowledge of a second language is an asset.
- Excellent communicator with an ability to deliver information in a clear and concise manner
- CPR, First Aid, and SmartServe training are an asset
- Interest in film, non-profits, arts and culture is considered an asset
