NEW HIGHER SALARY: $36,682 – $64,194
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced Transportation Worker to join our Beaufort County Bridge Maintenance team.
 
In this role you will serve as a crew leader leading teams in the preservation, maintenance, repair, and construction of state-owned fixed and moveable bridges, culverts, and pipes 54″ and larger.
  
What You Bring
    • Experience in Advanced Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices.
    • Demonstrated ability supervising and training others in equipment operations.
    • Working experience as the Lead Worker on a Bridge Crew without supervision.
    • Experience reading and interpreting plans, calculating quantities, and placing orders, plan reading and layout, directing drilling and cutting of holes, and directing erection of steel beams and bridge components.
    • Experience serving as a lead in trenching and shoring operations.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Note: If you don’t have one, STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire).
    • Strength to safely exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 50 pounds of force frequently.
    • Ability to safely work in a close environment or independently.
    • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions as directed by your supervisor.
    • Ability to perform work safely while suspended at moderate heights, confined areas, over water, in water, in extreme heat and cold, and in inclement weather.
    • Safety toe shoes.
 
Notes
    • This position is technical in nature and labor intensive.
    • You will be working in diverse working environments, all types of weather, in and around heavy equipment, and using power tools.
    • When bad weather happens, you will be called on to work nights and/or weekends to help in snow and ice removal.
    •  A pre-employment drug testing is required, and we will do a background check of your employers for the past 2 years for controlled substances/alcohol testing.
  
Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 6+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
