NEW HIGHER PAY: $32,460 – $56,806
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced transportation worker to join our Granville County Roadside Environmental team.
 
In this role you will:
    • Perform labor intensive erosion control, planting, and plant maintenance, herbicide operations and general Roadside Environmental operations.
    • Plant shrubs, trees, flowers, and ground cover.
    • Perform seeding and mulching.
    • Install traffic and erosion control device.
    • Operate hand and power tools.
    • Inspect and service equipment.
    • Operate augers, manual/hydraulic tools, various truck, trailers, tractors, and specialized equipment.
    • Perform flagging operations to safely guide traffic through work zones.
What You Bring
    • Experience in correctly applying herbicides and pesticides in accordance with the label, as well as proper storage and disposal techniques.
    • Experience installing wildflower beds, other landscape plantings, and reforestation.
    • Experience in the maintenance and installation of erosion control devices.
    • Experience in traffic control and lane closures on multi-lane roads.
    • Experience operating 2+ pieces of equipment: asphalt distributor, front end loader, dump truck/Tandem, tractor “A” boom mower, mulch blower, sod seeder, side delivery spreader, bark spreader, conventional pesticide applicator, hydroseeder, skid steer, or ditching machine.
    • Ability to safely operate a Class A motor vehicle.
    • Communication skills to receive and give effective communications.
    • Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time.
    • Able to operate equipment that vibrates.
    • Ability to perform essential functions in extreme hot and/or cold weather.
    • Agility to traverse uneven terrain.
    • Strength to repetitively lift 50 pounds.
    • A Commercial Driver License. (Note: If you don’t have one, you can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire). Preference will be given to applicants with a commercial driver’s license/permit.
  
Notes
    • You will be required to work in diverse working environments, all weather conditions and terrain, heavy traffic, and near traffic moving at high speeds.
    • Some night and weekend activities will be required, including emergency work such as storm damage cleanup/snow/ice removal.
    • Safety-toe shoes are required.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and check with your employers over the past 2 years for alcohol/drug abuse.
 
Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 5+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
