Job Description
- Be an edge line operator on the long line paint machine.
- Operate all pavement markings equipment, pre-line, and/or inspect pavement markings.
- Work in Forsyth County and across all 5 counties in Division 9.
- Assist with installing, maintaining, and replacing thermoplastic and paint type special markings on State-maintained roads in Division 9 in compliance with NCDOT Standards.
- Inspect the installation of pavement markings by contractors.
- Apply a safety philosophy to all operations.
- An intermediate level of experience in pre-lining and the operation of thermoplastic & paint machines.
- Ability to properly install or manage the installation of temporary traffic controls in accordance with NCDOT Standards.
- Ability to independently plan and carry out assigned projects.
- Good communications skills to work effectively with colleagues across multiple organizations and with the public.
- Ability to work year-round in outside environment, including extreme heat and cold.
- Experience supervising a Special Marking crew or a Pre-line and Passing Zone crew.
- Knowledge in Advance Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety practices.
- Experience as a Lead Worker overseeing a Pavement Marker/Delineator crew or a Special Marking Crew.
- Experience in at least 2 pieces of equipment: paint truck, pre-line paint machine, asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, and truck w/aerial device.
- Experience disassembling, cleaning, and repairing spray devices and component parts for pavement marking machines.
- Strength to lift or carry up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and more than 50 pounds of force frequently, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with N endorsement, or you must obtain the license and endorsement through on-the-job training within 360 days of hire.
- You will be required to work hours other than regular schedule due to emergencies and heavy workloads.
- This position is labor intensive and you will be required to work in a diverse working environment in all weather conditions, heavy traffic, and traffic moving at high speed.
- Safety toe shoes are required.
- A pre-employment drug testing is required, and we will perform a background check of your previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances and alcohol testing.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 5+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
