Full-Time Transportation Worker II – Traffic Sign Services – 2+ Openings!
Job Description
- Install, maintain, repair, & replace ground-mounted signs included: Transit-Oriented Development (TODs) and Adopt-A-Highway signs.
- Assist paint crews.
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools.
- Serve as a sign erector.
- Haul paint supplies.
- Flag traffic.
- Transport inmates for work details.
- Communications skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships with crew members, other NCDOT staff, and the public.
- Ability to work outside in extreme heat and cold.
- Experience installing traffic controls, such as detours and lane closures.
- Knowledge of sign design, layout, and fabrication.
- Experience operating a sign truck with attachments.
- Experience in the installation of roadway signs and Basic Incident Response.
- Fitness to stand, walk, talk, and hear. Pre-employment drug testing required.
- 21+ years of age.
- Safety toe shoes.
- A Commercial Driver’s License. (Note: If you don’t have this, STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on the job training program within 360 days of hire.)
- You will be subject to emergency callbacks for detours and bad weather (snow and ice removal).
- You will be exposed to extreme conditions, such as ice, snow, difficult terrains, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and a background check of your previous employers for the past 2 years for drug/alcohol abuse. We will also conduct a criminal background check so you can transport inmates to work details.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
