New Higher Pay:  $31,200 – $54,101
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced transportation worker to join our Forsyth County Traffic Services team. This is a labor intensive role.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Serve as the sign crew lead in Forsyth County for Traffic Services, and work across all 5 counties in Division 9.
    • Install, maintain, and repair signs.
    • Assist in maintaining our sign inventory.
    • Make signs as needed for signing projects.
    • Install and maintain detours.
    • Coordinate our 24-hour emergency response to damaged regulatory signs.
    • Install pavement markings.
    • Do snow/ice removal.
 
What You Bring
    • Experience installing roadway signs and operating a sign truck with attachments.
    • Traffic control installation experience, such as detours and lane closures.
    • Knowledge of sign design, layout, and fabrication.
    • Knowledge of maintaining the Sign Inventory.
    • Ability to independently plan and carry out assigned projects.
    • Skills to properly install and manage the installation of temporary traffic control in accordance with NCDOT Standards.
    • Communication skills to work with staff across multiple organizations and the public.
    • Ability to work in an outside environment, including extreme heat and cold, year-round.
    • Strength to lift 50 pounds repetitively throughout the day, lift or carry up to 100 pounds occasionally, and 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Ability to apply a safety philosophy to all operations.
    • The employee must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
    • Class A Commercial Driver’s License with no endorsements. (Note: If you don’t have this, you can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire.)
 
Notes
    • You will be required to work hours other than regular schedule due to emergencies and heavy workloads.
    • You will be exposed to all types of weather conditions, heavy traffic, and around traffic moving at high speeds.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and a background check of your previous employers for the past 2 years for drug/alcohol abuse. We will also conduct a criminal background check.
    • Safety toe shoes are required.
 
Education & Experience
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
