Job Description
- Traverse steep and uneven terrain.
- Work in extreme temperature conditions.
- Act upon both verbal and written communication to successfully complete assigned tasks.
- Perform manual labor road maintenance and other duties.
- Perform progressively responsible maintenance tasks in the preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of NC-maintained roads and roadside features.
- Install traffic and erosion control devices.
- Operate hand and power tools.
- Clear right of ways.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs to pavements, shoulder maintenance, pipe installation or other drainage tasks.
- Inventory and track materials used.
- Perform manual labor.
- Operate heavy equipment.
- Repeatedly lift up to 80 pounds.
- Walk and stand for long periods of time.
- Shovel, rake, and sweep.
- Work in all types of weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures, Work Zone Safety, and Workplace safety policies.
- Experience in 2+ pieces of these equipment: asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, truck with aerial device.
- Experience in 1+ of the following: pipe installation, installation of erosion control devices, snow and ice removal, ditch maintenance, or asphalt patching.
- Installation of erosion control device experience.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (If you don’t have this, STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire!)
- Safety toe shoes.
- You will be subject to emergency call back, scheduled night work, and out of town travel during adverse weather or other extreme circumstances.
- A pre-employment drug test is required, and we will conduct a background investigation over the past 3 years with your previous employers for controlled substance and alcohol testing.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
