Job Description
- Perform manual & equipment operational work involving the maintenance and replacement of bridges, pipes, and reinforced concrete box culverts.
- Often use small hand tools and carpentry tools.
- Place & finish concrete.
- Use a two-way radio to communicate.
- Operate a chainsaw.
- Learn an introduction to erosion control.
- Operate a dump truck.
- Secure and haul loads.
- Use an air compressor, forklift, vibratory roller, front end loader, backhoe, lowboy, and truck mounted crane.
- Rig loads for lifting, tie reinforcing steel, and conduct flagging operations.
- Perform pipe installation & drainage maintenance, carpentry work (including forming and layout), cutting & fitting structural steel to close tolerances, planning development & layout of traffic control in a work zone for 2 lane roads, install & maintain erosion control devices and transport materials/equipment using a truck & trailer.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License with N endorsement within 360 days of hire. (Note: we offer on-the-job training to help you get this!)
- Experience in pipe installation and installing erosion control devices.
- Experience in the layout of traffic control in work zones.
- Experience in at least one of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, asphalt patching, or snow and ice removal.
- Experience in at least two pieces of Bridge Category B equipment: asphalt distributor, asphalt mixer, asphalt patcher, crack sealing machine, ditching machine, force feed loader, front end loader, lube truck, asphalt maintainer, post driver, skid steer, street sweeper, tandem dump truck, tractor “A” boom mower, and/or truck w/aerial device
- Experience constructing formwork using skilled carpentry techniques.
- General skills in a wide variety of areas including pile driving, carpentry, concrete work, machine operation, contract inspection, repair and replacement of culverts, bridges, large diameter pipe, bulkheads and pile clusters, sandblasting, lead paint removal, painting, steel fabrication and straightening of steel beams, trenching & shoring, and bushing & shrubbing.
- Agility to walk on uneven terrain, climb, and strength to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Good communications and listening skills.
- Ability to obtain/maintain an inmate card.
- Fearless of heights.
- Also exposed to extreme conditions such as ice, snow, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- You will be subject to emergency call back that may occur after normal working hours.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and background check with your previous employers for the past 2 years about controlled substances and alcohol abuse.
- Safety toe shoes are required.
- High school/GED diploma, and
- 3+ years of relevant experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
