New Higher Pay: $31,688 – $55,453
The Challenge
We are looking for an experienced transportation worker to join our Harnett County Maintenance team.
 
In this role, you will:
    • Perform maintenance tasks in preventive maintenance, repair, and construction of state-maintained roads and roadside features.
    • Install traffic & erosion control devices.
    • Perform chip seal operations.
    • Perform crack seal operations.
    • Repair pavement.
    • Lead snow removal operations.
    • Inspect contract work.
    • Transport inmates for work detail.
    • Operate heavy equipment including chip spreaders, tandem dump trucks, quad dump trucks, front end loaders, tractor trailers, lee boy asphalt maintainers, rollers, and other pieces.
    • Provide emergency response including traffic accident clean-up, snow and ice removal, and other emergencies.
 
What You Bring
    • Knowledge of standard road maintenance and construction procedures.
    • Experience in shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, and/or asphalt patching.
    • Strength to repeatedly lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Experience operating 2+ pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, asphalt patcher crack sealing machine, track excavators, skid steer, or sweeper.
    • Good written and verbal communication skills.
    • Agility to stand and walk on uneven surfaces and slopes.
    • Good communications skills with ability to speak, listen, and understand English.
    • Ability to work in extreme conditions, such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, and in high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
    • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
    • A Commercial Driver’s License (Note: If you don’t have this, you can get it after you are hired through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire.)
    • Safety toe shoes.
    • Ability to acquire and maintain an inmate card from the NC Department of Public Safety.
 
Notes
    • This role is subject to emergency call backs and scheduled night work during adverse weather or other circumstances.
    • We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and a background check of your previous employers for the past 2 years for drug/alcohol abuse.
 
Education & Experience
    • 21+ years old, and
    • High school/GED diploma, and
    • 3+ years of relevant experience; or
    • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
