Job Description
- Be a part of a crew performing concrete operations on highways.
- Direct, assist, and train crew members and operators.
- Calculate quantities using basic math skills.
- Perform work within an established budget.
- Develop a positive work environment with a team approach and communicate effectively.
- Respond to emergencies such as snow and ice removal, downed trees, and traffic control cleanup, etc. during normal business hours or during emergency call back situations and scheduled night work.
- Create a positive work environment with a team approach.
- Transport inmates to work details.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with N endorsement. (Note: If you don’t have this, still apply! You can get it through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire).
- Road maintenance and repair experience.
- Experience with maintenance equipment operation.
- Record keeping experience, e.g., tracking staff and equipment time, recording materials used quantities, etc.
- Experience in NCDOT snow and ice operations.
- Work Zone Safety experience and knowledge of NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices.
- Experience planning work and supervising work crews.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English.
- Safety toe shoes.
- High School/GED diploma, and
- 6+ years of progressive experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Position will be exposed to extreme conditions such as snow and ice, dust, extreme temps, high volumes of traffic, and heavy construction equipment.
- You will be exposed to extreme conditions such as ice, snow, difficult terrain, dust, extreme heat and cold, high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment.
- You must be able to obtain and maintain a valid inmate card.
- You will be subject to emergency call back and will be required to work nights/weekends as needed for emergency and planned operations during adverse weather.
- We require a pre-employment drug test and will conduct a background check with previous employers for the past 2 years for controlled substance/alcohol testing.
