Full-Time Transportation Planning Engineer > Entry Level!
Job Description
- Create and deliver transportation plans that address North Carolina’s current and future demand.
- Work with external partners to create long-range transportation plans by identifying transportation needs 21st century solutions.
- Conduct travel forecasting, capture and analyze GIS intelligence, solve problems, and use your leadership skills.
- Use your strong verbal and written communication skills to build consensus and establish/maintain good working relationships.
- Basic knowledge of the technical aspects of transportation systems planning, travel demand modeling using TransCAD, ArcGIS/ArcGIS Pro, capacity deficiency analysis, traffic forecasting, alternative modes of transportation, environmental screening, and other project planning principles.
- Experience, training, or coursework in transportation planning, project development, traffic forecasting, environmental engineering, traffic engineering, data collection and evaluation, traffic trends, data projections, or application of capacity analysis.
- Computer skills in business/engineering applications (Microsoft Office, GIS, TransCAD, etc.).
- Experience communicating findings and recommendations to others.
- Experience working on team/group projects and ability to work independently.
- Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Good technical writing/verbal communication skills to work and communicate with internal/external customers in a professional manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Strength to lift/carry meeting materials.
- Driver’s license and ability to safely drive alone.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Candidates who have passed the FE exam, are pursuing a PE, and/or have some coursework and/or experience in transportation planning.
- Entry level engineers typically start at ~$73K with full State benefits including a pension.

- Most of your work will be done in our downtown Raleigh HQ with <20% travel – almost always scheduled in advance.
- Most travel is daily and evening, but there could be some occasional overnight travel.
- You may be required to register as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
