Full-Time Transportation Construction Supervisor I – NEW HIGHER PAY!
Job Description
- Plan, coordinate, direct, and supervise all force account construction road operations in Pitt County, including grading, bituminous patching/pavement maintenance, shoulder/ditch operations, pipe drainage, and clearing/grubbing by state forces and fully-operated equipment contractors.
- Carry out NCDOT’s Safety Program and NC VIP (Valuing Individual Performance), train new staff, maintain staff time, complete FR-1101 Job Reports, and other record keeping.
- Use a computer for documentation, calculations, figuring grades and elevations, and use NCDOT programs such as VIP, SAP, CARS, AMS, etc.
- Maintain effective working relations with staff and the public.
- Roadway maintenance and repair experience in 1+ of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation, asphalt patching, snow and ice removal, crack sealing, full depth patching, or pothole patching.
- Record keeping experience, such as tracking staff and equipment time and recording material quantities used.
- Management experience supervising staff and directing daily work crew activities.
- Work Zone Safety experience, understanding of NCDOT Workplace Safety Policy and Practices, and ability to promote a safe work environment.
- Experience planning and organizing work.
- Ability to supervise work crews.
- Ability to maintain working knowledge of all operating procedures.
- Capability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Note: if you don’t have this, you can get it through our on-the-job training program within 360 days of hire.)
- High School/GED diploma, and
- 6+ years of progressive experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- You will be exposed to all types of weather conditions and expected to work on uneven surfaces and slopes.
- This role is subject to emergency call backs, night and weekend work, and work in adverse weather/other extreme circumstances.
- Safety toe footwear is required.
- We will conduct a pre-employment drug test and will conduct a background check with your previous employers for the past 2 years for controlled substance/alcohol testing.
