The Position
The Outreach Team is one of the largest field vendors in the country. We work on behalf of amazing progressive partners to win real social change for good. Our goal is to consistently raise the overall level of organizing/canvass work across platforms by thinking holistically about our clients, the campaign we are trying to win, and the staff who work on the campaign.
Our ability to run successful campaigns depends on the strength of our organizers and managers, and our ability to scale up depends on the depth and readiness of our leadership bench. With that in mind, we’re hiring a Training Director to implement a centralized training program for our staff and to support project and department-specific trainings, so that we can maintain the highest quality outreach work as we grow.
This is a job for someone who loves training organizers, canvassers, and managers. We believe that staff learn the most by trying things and getting lots of feedback, so we’re looking for an experienced manager who can create, deliver, and institutionalize a series of trainings that involve simple principles, demonstrations, and a lot of practice.
This position is remote. This is a Specialist 1 – level position reporting to the People Director. The position starts immediately and will involve significant travel (average of 5-10 days per month) when it is safe to do so.
Responsibilities:
Oversee The Outreach Team’s Training Program
- Oversee curriculum and ensure staff and managers are getting the training they need to succeed
- Look for gaps or opportunities in training or context and advise on trainings to add or change.
- Manage central library of training materials, content and self-guided trainings
- Create or identify tools for tracking staff progress through trainings
- Ensure all trainings (centralized and project-specific) follow the TOT pedagogy and live our values of equity & justice
Drive centralized training program
- Implement a series of onboarding trainings for staff of all levels, including managers
- Ensure all staff complete initial onboarding and management trainings on schedule
- Support pipeline program for BIPOC staff to move up the ladder that includes training, mentorship, and a leadership development trajectory
- Develop and implement a process for observing staff field performance regularly and providing feedback
- Build upon and institutionalize an ongoing training program for management to build their skills (Staff Manager & Project Director Training)
- Develop and implement management skills trainings for staff who are not-yet managers
Support project and department-specific trainings
- Drive the planning and setup for ad hoc trainings
- Support Project Directors in creating and implementing project and department-specific trainings
- Support People Department staff in creating and offering post-campaign trainings
- Manage logistics for virtual and in-person training (when safe)
What we are looking for:
Qualifications:
Must Haves
- Strong trainer
- Experience planning large events
- Experience as an organizer and/or canvass director
- Experience managing people in an educational setting
- Project Management Experience
- Curriculum development experience or ability
- Fluency in G Suite
- Track record of centering equity and justice in your work
- Passion for progressive policies
- Comfortable working independently – self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Organized and capable of juggling multiple priorities
Nice to Haves
- Experience planning large trainings for organizers and/or canvass directors
- Knowledge of adult learning principles
- Experience managing full-time staff
- Experience tailoring trainings to different learning styles
- Track record of creating systems and workflows
- Experience doing virtual trainings
- Knowledge of equitable assessment
Job Details
Location: The position can be located anywhere in the continental U.S. and will involve significant travel when it becomes safe to do so.
Salary: The salary for this position is $52,600 – $77,600 annually depending on experience. We offer a generous benefits package, including paid vacation, paid sick leave, health insurance, hands-on training, and opportunities for advancement.
